stilllllllllllllllllllllllllll waiting for the powerglide

however i got my crank stress relieved, crack tested, straightened, polished, nitrided, linished and will be balanced as soon as i order the bearings (thanks again wes for the part numbers)

after reading one of john dixon's posts about changing water pipes to clear runners, I have redesigned cooling system ... got rid of that ugly thermostat housing above it, plated it and will be running the EWP controller this time instead of a thermostat and a pipe straight off where the water pump was (no heater now also)

anyone and everyone throw some ideas at me. any ideas at all

keeping in mine i want to run standard head casting (not ported) and this motor WONT be bored or stroked

Sounds like great progress!

I am wondering why only one turbo? Perhaps you can share your thoughts and how you will address turbo lag.

I think when I talked to him on the phone that he said he was going to run about a 3000 or so stall torque converter, and by then the turbo would be spooled up quite enough to go....

Its not a very big turbo for the engine really ... 1000 hp GT4202RS ... i mean people run 450 hp turbo's on sr20's and lag isnt too bad at all

I've calculated the engine should make peak torque just before 3500 rpm. My stall is 3500 rpm @ 800 engine hp so if i make more the stall will obviously rise along with everything else. So it should ride the peak torque curve the whole way to redline

To be honest single is tidier, EASIER for intercooler piping, and 1 x 5" exhaust is enough i think for anyone

How much did it cost you to have your crank nitrided?Did you just have the journals done?

stress relieved, crack tested, pre-nitride straighten and polish, nitride, post-nitride straighten and linish $220 AUD ... and thats a 23-24 kg crank

the whole crank is nitrided

down undah is where the fun happens

Postage alone on 24kg from here to the US would run you up to

AU$330.50 which is US$247.88 for air mail....andAU$278.50 which is US$208.88 for economy.....

then the price of the crank to be nitrided etc.......

AU$220 which is US$165........

total of US$412.38 delivered air mail....

Still sound like a good deal?

(Conversions of dollar worked to US$0.75 = AU$1 , but this fluctuates daily, depending on the price of oil per barrel and the stock market....)

That is a totally stellar price still compared to what I have found available in the US.

I have re-built different engines in the past where the crank was nitrided coated on the journals from the factory, and undersizing the journals would grind all of the nitride coating off. Turned cranks were less "desirable".

Ezekial, will you e-mail me the adress and contact info for the person who does the nitride hardening?

You can email me if you like mate ... i am always keen to talk about VH45's

But here's the info for you

HEAT TREATMENT AUSTRALIA 33 Cann StGuildford NSW 2161 (02) 9681 3050http://www.heat.com.au/http://www.heat.com.au/contact.htm

John is the guy i dealt with. The manager of the sydney branch. Great guy!

And it was Bob BB Lee at Action Cranks Australia that did the machining (polishing, linishing, grinding if necessary etc)

He does alot of the top fueler stuff here in australia. And is involved in sprint cars and the likes.

ACTION CRANK SERVICEU 60/ 93 -97 Newton RdWetherill Park NSW 2164(02) 9756 3840

A break down in price was:$120 -> HEAT TREATMENT AUSTRALIA$100 -> ACTION CRANK SERVICE

Not sure if this is going to help you much if any mate. Its a lonnnnnnng way from where you are mate
