I just placed a bid on a 2000 Q45 that is up for sale on Ebay and this is new territory for me. The car described is being offered by a private seller and he is a retiree. I sent him an e-mail inquiring about the nav system, tires, and DOOR dings and he did respond. I did include my phone number but he didn't call.

The car as described is about about what I am looking for.

Never having actually bid on anything on Ebay I have a couple of Q's. I have bought a couple of items in the past but not on a bid.

Are there any tricks that may be played on me that I am not aware of? I have read the info pertaining to the sale, payment and whatever is on the instructions included on the page with the sale item. Should that be it?

I'm thinking that there are some Ebay fees that must be paid by someone but I didn't see anything about that as far as it pertains to me???

Finally if I get cold feet or in any way decide that I don't want to follow through because I am thinking there is something fishy going on here with this deal, what happens? TO ME that is. I'm a big boy and can take care of myself but it's always good to know the unknown, or so to speak.

Any tips would be very appreciated. Thanks Jack.

I dont think I would buy a car without viewing it in person or at the very least having 50+ high resolution shots of every nook and cranny. We are talking about a very large purchase here. I believe that an ebay bid is binding by the way, so think this out before you proceed.

I would tend to agree... I would just email the seller and say that if you dont feel that its the way he described, can you back out. If hes got nothing to hide then he wont care if the car doesnt sell, because he should be able to sell it to someone else...

in short, i wouldnt buy a car on ebay unless it was so cheap that it doesnt matter if this and that wasnt as described, or I was able to look at it first... With Y33s you are a bit safer than a G50, mainly since G50s are older and people rag them out hardcore. Y33s are still new enough that your probably OK.

Read the how to buy a Q45 sticky above.

You must have the Infiniti dealer performed service history and any other provided before even inspecting the car yourself so you can direct the Senior Infniti Tehcnician who is inspecting the car where to look more thoutoughly at your expense.

I bought mine off ebay from Louisiana and had it shipped to me.

I'm a trusting sort of risk-taker type, and it worked out fine for me, with the exception of the shipper who let a chain dangle, gouging the roof, and then "went out of business" when I tried to file an insurance claim. Don't trust shippers.

Of course, I could easily have gotten screwed on the car, too.

I am an ebay seller, I sell on eBay for a living. I would give the seller a day or 2 to respond before giving it up. You can retract your bid if you need to but if you do it very much than eBay will kick you off.

I wouldn't buy a Q without giving it a physical first, I mean literally. You got to quiz the guy down about it's tratement and services ect. Many times if you are buying from an old grandpa than there is a good chance the car hasn't been flogged.

Please post the eBay item # up or a link to the auction. You can also request the seller's phone # from eBay and they will USU. give it to you.

I've never bought a car off ebay, but my friends have. I've got one friend who has bought a QX4, Q45 and S10 off ebay. He also sold the ebay. Her brother bought a Honda. Their mother bought a Vette. Things have always worked out for them.

Personally, I've never bought a car I didn't test drive first.

You don't pay anything but the price of the item on ebay. The seller pays fees to list and I think a percentage of the sale price goes to ebay.

I thought you were getting the other Q from the lady with the BMW?

The guy selling is a retiree and he refers to the car as "his baby" so I'm dealing with an emotional situation here. Of course folks selling a long owned car tend to develope an affection for their and I understand. However to me it's just a car the I would like to buy and there are others like it for sale.

I bid as much as I would pay and I might adjust upwards but not by much. Strange but Ebay posted an offer below what I wrote in and I;m wondering about that. I don't think I made a typo ? ? ?

I didn't access this thread at the beginning hence this post.

OK I am a Grandpa myself and I am very leery of cars that have been owned by anyone younger than me Now having said that, I just bought a 2003 VW Passat from a young guy for my granddaughter, and lo and behold, the car is spotless and pristine. However the guy is going to be a lawyer (read conservative) and he kept the car up with a view of selling it.

I did state that the seller is a RETIREE. The snap shot of the car shows a big house in the background and based on that it seems like a high rent district.

I bid in a price that will be satisfactory to me if it is accepted.

Thanks for the tips. Jack

As far as buying from a young person, it depends. I am only 27, but I took care of my cars. I bought a car off ebay, but I drove out to NJ to view and test drive it. Be sure to get many high resolution shots before you go through with anything. Vin number helps for a carfax, but honestly from my experience, carfax doesnt reveal everything.

That's standard ebay practice. You're actually giving them your maximum bid and they post only as much as it takes to outbid the previous bidder. The next bidder has to keep upping his bid until it exceeds yours.

Yeah age does means something. I damn sure ain't gonna spin my car around on the highway or do anything that will possibly unduly stress it.( I can see the burnt rubber circles on the highway and they ain't something gramps do). I like to drive fast but I no longer think I am the BEST there is and I've been scootin' down the road a looooong time so I ain't about to test the limits of the speedo on my car.

I have five friends/acquaintances that have lost their sons in car crashes and all were around 18-19. Good boys too. Inexperience and speed is a deadly combo. ARROGANCE is the precursor.

Not meaning to lecture here because really there is little I can do to to prevent folks from doing themselves in, as they see fit, so, I just slide out of the way and ya'll can have at it.

End of story and I maintain my position about buying a car from young folks generally. And that's how it is

Ya'll take care. Jack

That may be good, because a lot of retirees sell their car because they didn't want to spend the funds to maintain it and something finally broke or started to fail that will cost a lot to replace.

And, as always, beware of cars from some areas. Like Louisiana. Not all cars have problems, of course, but many of the cars on the market from there were a bit submerged for a while - even if partially.

If you see tell-tale watermarks (door insides, wheel wells, seating area, etc.), then avoid the car like a plague.

Well I'm already here. Been here a looooong time and don't ya kno I have not been able to find a car "Q45" that I would buy as yet. There is one that I saw and decided against, another that might still be around a Ford dealers lot but it's black and not for me. I even called the Infinity dealer and no cigar but I left my name and phone number. I checked Craiglist and left a WANTED ad all over LA but nada.

The Q45 I bid on (Ebay) in FL is due to come off the auction tonight and we'll see. I also have a son in law living in FL, Ft Myers area, and I told him to be on the lookout for a Q45, RETIREE owned and sellin'.

Actually there is no hurry because I really don't need another car but I want aQ45 for, because wellllll what the hell.

Ya'll take care. Jack

I kind of see something coming. You will purchase your Q45 and then become the retiree that you speak of buying from. Remember a car being dealer "maintained" is nice, but the car being properly serviced and taken car of is something different. But hey, from the sounds of it, you have some money to burn and why not spend it, you cant take it with ya!!
