My Versa was broken into...

So I had my Versa broken into in our underground parking. They broke the little rear window on the drivers side. The alarm never went off, even though it was armed. After I had it fixed, I tried it out, and if the door is opened from inside the car, the alarm doesn't go off.

I'm rather pissed off at this. There is absolutely no point in having an alarm if all you have to do to get in is break a window.

Atleast they didn't steal the car, and most people ignore the alarms anyway.

They take anything?

Edit: Same thing with my car. I hope is doesn't shut off the vehicle disabler or anything...

They only took some cds and my hairbrush (slightly creepy). It won't do anything to the disabler because that requires the key to be in the ignition.

hmm... my alarm went off when Josh tried to get out of the car after it auto-armed one day in the parking lot... (that was the old V, I'll have to try it again with the newer one...)

I was under the impression it was supposed to go off if any door opened for any reason! eep!

It now appears that you would have to get an aftermarket alarm system to provide the added security. Wow that is interesting to know. Thanks for sharing that with us.

There is a much better theft deterrent that can be built with some 1/2" steel tubing and a tank of propane. Just drill small holes lengthwise in the tubes, one tube for each side (long enough to fit between each wheel well). As the door is opened, it'll trigger an electronic ignitor that will send flames shooting out from under the rocker panels. If you want, you can also install an electic fence charger that will electrocute anyone who touches the body (but don't expect any of the cars' electronics to survive).

I suppose two wrongs don't make a right. Up here in NH, we have a law that states a homeowner can defend him/herself by any means necessary should an un-welcomed individual enter your home. This includes firearms. I suppose this law does not extend to vehicles...

Unless my car is disarmed, if you open the door inside or out the alarm will go off. On a long trip in November my brother got out of the car after I armed it and it went off. He got out about 5 mins after it was armed.

Well that's what I would of expected mine to do, but when I try it the alarm doesn't go off. It sure didn't when the car was broken into.

I have to go in for my first oil change in a couple days, I'll talk to the dealership about it then.

It does in Texas and Florida... but then again, those are "shoot first, ask questions later" states. Literally.

Yes, but I heard of it several years ago, and at the time, there was no commercial version available.

I like the anti-theft system in the parody ads in Robocop!
