Someone ran into the back of my versa....I have a couple quotes on it and I am going to see their insurance agent today. This really sucks...one of the body shops said that they couldn't find the back bumper cover, but the other shop did find it.

Anyone else been hit yet?

Yeah, I had $8000 in damage incurred on my Versa when a Ford F150 slammed me in the rear 2 months ago. I just got my car back last week... be prepared for a long wait.

If your body shop is having a hard time finding parts, they can call the dealership my body shop worked with. I know they will have the part numbers, even if they are too far away to actually get the parts to them. The dealer that was working with my shop was Burien Nissan in Burien (Seattle), WA.

Sorry to hear about your accident... how bad? Got pics?

And to the rest of you: It's safe to be insane. This accident closes the latest round of 3 that was started by Xu_chen.

I will upload some pics later today. The damage is between $1340-1900 according to the estimates that I got yesterday. I am in SC, I am headed to Seattle this friday to visit some friends. I have never been to Seattle, I am looking forward to the trip.

well.......it didnt end with 3......Mine was rear-ended on Monday by a hispanic girl who was driving a rental Nissan Pathfinder since her car was on the body shop from an accident last week!.....I am still trying to get the insurance thing confirmed and get it to the body shop. No idea as to the estimate, but hopefully I get all the parts I need. I am assuming I need to change the entire hatch door assembly and the rear bumper and some wheel alignment issues at the least. Are there other things I need to make sure?? What would they be? Please help.

I just got back from the insurance adjuster about 30 mins ago. Something that you need to request, the insurance companies will not offer it if you don't request it, is DIMINISHED VALUE. This refers to the loss in value of your car now that it has been in an accident. It is usually about 10% of the cost of the damage. Also, if you get hit (this may vary state to state), you have 24 hours to get checked out by a doctor. GET CHECKED OUT, just to make sure everything is fine. And save your receipt, their insurance company will reimburse you for your time away from work as well as your bill. Everything is fine with me but I went to the doctor to be safe. They owed me $380 and they settled for $1000, so I cleared $620, but I also signed off relieving them from any further responsibility for my medical bills (that may or may not ever arrise). So just because I got some money for settling, I also gave up the right to have them take care of me if something else comes up from this accident. Also, they cut a check for their estimate of the car, but they also said that if it is more than that amount, then the body shop should just contact them directly about getting the rest of the bill taken care of. So I don't have to deal with that part of the headache any longer. ONE LAST IMPORTANT THING because your car is so new, request OEM parts. That stands for original equipment manufacturer. You need to have all Genuine Nissan parts put back on there, no cheap aftermarket stuff, there really isn't any aftermarket (stock aftermarket, not tuner aftermarket) product out there yet anyway but request and require it anyway. and if you have any more questions email me: [email protected]

And I also get a rental car from Enterprise...they pick you up....

Did you request diminished value?

Thanks a whole lot for the input. I havent yet talked to the adjustor yet. they are bouncing me back and forth between their regional office and local office. I am actually tired of dealing with them even before anything got started!!!

I will ask for the diminished value for sure when I meet them. I will also ask for the OEM. I called my dealership and got the body shop address from them. I asked them if they install original parts. They acknowledged. So, I will get that nailed down too. I am rushing up with things to get a rental car. I dont have a car as yet and it is a struggle to say the least. The insuranc e company is a big headache to deal with.

The cop registered it as a minor accident, but the wheel alignment seems to be off. I didnt feel comfortable driving it. The insurance guys are exploiting the "minor accident" tag and delaying things!

I'm in the process of getting a diminished value claim written.

I'm having some trouble getting ahold of the claim writers, so this is taking a little time.

At least here in WA I have an advantage over most states in that I can present my claim to MY insurance company, and they'll go after the other guy's company for me. Most places you have to present it to the other person's insurance company... and it would probably be best to hire a lawyer.

For those looking, go to http://www.mycarlostvalue.com (law offices of Wattel and York, based in Arizona), they specialize in this type of claim and can refer you to local claims writers and/or attorneys.

Edit: as a side note, the initial damage estimate on my Versa was $1800.

When all was said and done, it was just shy of $8000. So expect that to go up.

ok......here is the situation.....It has been almost three days since the accident occured!Farm Bereau Insurance still has not giuven me a rental nor an estimate for claims. I told the adjustor I have been missing work owing to the accidenta nd not having a car. He said they could not compensate for that, but would give me $30 a day for the number of days without a car since the accident. I cannot believe my work is worth only $30!!! I am not too sure about this deal.......I would want to go according to rules and regulations specified in the insurance claims. Can any of you tell me which clauses to use in thsi regard? What would be the best option for me at this juncture???I despise the total lack of respect and concern from the insurance companies! I think they ought to be penalised! for all the money we pay them.......

I have no love for insurance companies. BUT before you can demand more from them go back and re-read your policy. Find out exactly what is covered and what is not. Check all clauses and coverage types covered by your policy. You won't know if you're getting screwed over until you now what is owed to you in the first place.

I was under the assumption that unless an ambulence called to the scene the chances of getting any money for injuries is small.

well......I am not asking for any compensation for injuries or so......All I wanted is a verbal agreement that they would reimburse my car rental so I could get on with my life. They could not even give that one. All the agents are beating around the bush and nothing seems to materialize. The reality is after 4 days since the accident occured, I still have my damaged car in the garage and no car to drive to work!......I feel ethically and morally violated if I have to rent a car on my own money!!How hard is that for an insurance company to assure a rental car? I mean.....they delay the estimating process so that they wouldnt have to rent the car from the first day onwards! they car a shoot about any of us! and I want them to pay for thei disrespect. I would rather get money from them and help the por through some charity! DARN!

are you talking to your insraunce company or theirs? if their's, try your own. tell them the other insurances company is not cooperating. most of the time they would go after the other company for the cost.

I tried through theiur insurance so I wont have to pay deductible......However, the diminished Value agency advises me to press a claim through my insurance owing to the coverage limits of the third party insurance. I am a bit confused.I think I might finally claim through my insurance. It is a lot of time investement going through the rigours of red tape and insurance agencies!

EV - Whom did you file it through? How did you go through the whole process? Also, the agency that you sent the link asked me if I had any referrals. If you could furnish me your last name and first name or some id I could give it to them. I am not sure if they would reward you with stuff, but it is well worth it. On the contrary, You could ask them and see what benefits you get for referrals.

The collision reimbursement I filed through the insurance of the at-fault party, the one that hit me. I didn't want to pay a deductible either... even though I would be reimbursed by the guy's company for my deductible. It's a mistake that cost me a week and a half because the guy's company dragged their heels.

I WILL be submitting the DV claim through my OWN insurance (because you can do that in WA and GA, but no other states). In any other state, you HAVE to file the DV claim with the at-fault party's insurance company. Which is why an attorney who works on contingency is useful.
