my turbo

i just got a turbo recently and i don't know how to overhaul it....i believe the turbo was off a truck, so i image the wastegate was set higher than i want to run a mostley stock engine on, however i have no idea how to test the wastegate...



that's what it looks like....can someone help me out?

If by overhaul, you are referring to rebuilding it, you need a rebuild kit. If the wheels have not touched either housing, the wheels should be reusable. I might recommend finding someone else to rebuild it for you though. They are not complicated to assemble, but with parts spinning up to speeds over 100,000 RPM, I'd be reluctant to tackle that myself. It will run the same psi of boost the truck was running. You can test the pressure by adding pressure to the wastegate acuator and watching to see when the wastegate opens fully. You will need a pump of some sort with a pressure gauge so you can control the pressure and see at what pressure it responds.

As far as the wastegate, they are calibrated based on boost, not airflow.

what about a manual boost controler, would that be an better option?

can't lower boost. search on that. there is apparently a way to modify the shaft of the wastegate to allow it.
