unfortunatly, it doesnt say good things, and i need some help figuring out what its saying.

here is the run down.car: 1993 240 fastbackmotor: SR20 Red Top

last night i was leaving work at 1am, and when i started the car, the turbo was way louder than it usualy is at idle. I could year the thing spinning. I babied it home, but the turbo was definatly allot louder than normal, and i could hear a VERY distinct pitch change when i was slowing down, sort of like those old slide whistles...Anyway, i got it home and was checking it out this morning, i poped the hood, and after letting the motor warm up, i revved it a few times and could see a little bit of white smoke rising from just above the turbo so ive taken appart the intake, the hot piping (FMIC) ang the flanges each bolt to.

FINDINGS: I cant feel any play in the turbine but there is an *** load of oil all over everything. Its inside the rubber intake pipe (posably from the PCV hose???) and collected at the bottom of the turbine just inside the housing. I also found some inside the hot pipe and outlet flange of the turbo. The Majority is on the front wheel of the turbine, and its sludgy, big time. My coolant is clean, i figured if the turbo was blown, i would have a milkshake in my radiator.

Questions:-is my turbo blown-is this normal? i searched quickly, but dint find anything.-if the oil isnt causing the noise, what could it be- -anyone have any ideas?-if im overlooking some critical information, please let me know.

Thanks Guys.

ya you can still boost with the turbo having bad/blown seals..it happenend just because the seals in the turbo are old..t25? ever been rebuilt? that thing has some years under its belt man..i was happy when mine started smokin (btw are you smoking out of your exhaust)..i took it as an excuse to upgrade to a bigger turbo and bigger injectors

thanks again, big time.

im looking for one right now, but ive got to get things back together so i can get going.

this is the life man, at least ive got the sr in and running lol.

your awsome

as for oil, this all happened just last night so there isnt a lot right now, but it was enough to concern me. i guess if i had to estimate its less than a half of a coke bottle cap full (the plastic screw on kind) worth of stagnent oil sitting in the turbo, and a healthy coating on the insides of the tubes, enough to dye my finger black when i scraped the insides.

It's all a matter of luck really...how good is yours? My friend blew a seal and the next night the turbo scattered (yes he beats his car hard + DSM@ 22psi). I drove with a blown seal on a T-3 for 6 months (smoked alot on startup and I babied it).

You should be fine for a while just keep eye on it and don't beat it. You still should replace it though.
