Post

So it's 12:40am and I just got in 10 mins ago. Sitting here winding down from the drive and decided to make a quick post. I just got back from spending the entire day at the Nürburgring and it was the most amazing day that I've had in a very long time. I can not remember the last time I had this much fun. We got there around 8:30am and watched several different series of races on the GP-Strecke (the new GP track) but the "main event" was the Le Mans. Unfortunately the actual race is tomorrow, today they did a free practice race, followed by two qualifying races later in the afternoon. But the highlight of my day was when they opened The Ring (Nordschleife aka Northern Loop) to the public at around 6pm-ish. Let me tell you... that was absolutely the most terrifying and exhilarating thing I have ever done in my entire life! The two scariest moments I'd have to say was coming around a blind turn a little two fast and sliding towards the edge of the track but I regained control and straightened it out and powered out of the turn with no problem at all. The other moment was when this Brit in a green RHD Evo tried to overtake me on the outside of a pretty sharp turn and lost control. He fish tailed towards the wall, over corrected and fish tailed towards where I WOULD have been had I not seen him and slowed down when he first lost control, over corrected again and almost went into the wall again before straightening it out, and almost losing it AGAIN while trying to over take a Porsche on the very next turn. The funnest part of the track I'd have to say was the Karussell and the final straight. Coming around the Karussell I dropped into the concrete berm-style banking turn and it was amazing how I could actually accelerate almost completely throw the entire turn and my car hugged the berm. The final straight, which is long was also fun cause of course, after ALL THOSE TURNS I was finally able to open it up and I almost hit 200 kmh before slowing down at the exit. What was also amazing yet scary was all the exotic cars on the track(amazing part), and how fast the come up on you and pass you(scary part). Literally I look in my rear view... literally SECONDS later, there is a Ferrari inches from my bumper trying to pass me, and here's me... "OMG where'd he come from?!" while trying to safely get out of his way with the quickness. I only regret that I was unable to get pictures of me driving it. My passenger, buddy from work, was too busy "Oh, $*IT! Oh, $*IT! Oh, $*IT!"ing and ripping my door handle off to even REMEMBER about taking pics and video. I didn't remember either till we exited and I said, "WTF?! YOU DID'T GET ANY PICS!!!" I did however get a good deal of pics of the races and some sweet cars in the Paddock. I'll post tomorrow, right now I'm tired. I will leave you with a couple for now and post the rest tomorrow.

BTW Joe, I think I want my custom title to be "Ring Racing G" or "Nürburgring G." What do you guys think?

So, I really hadn't realized how many pictures I took yesterday, but decided not to post them all here. Lol, it woulda been way to many, so I decided to just upload them all and leave a link to the album on photobucket. You can take a look if y'all like.

And yeah, I guess "Nürburgring G" is good. I'll go with that.

Yes, I truly know how lucky I am. For a long time now I have always said that I wished I could go, but I never thought I'd ever be in Europe. I can't believe that I really got to do it. My work buddies and I have already talked about making this a very regular thing, going up to Nürburg to watch races and have a few goes at the ring. I definitely want to take advantage of it as long as I have it. I certainly know that I will not be 1 1/2 hours away from this legendary track for the rest of my life.
