I took a trip to the salvage yard today seeing as I needed some parts. I think in many cases I got some what lucky. They had 4 Q45's, 3 1994-96 and 1 97. All of the Q's where gutted to the bone, nothing survived, or at least thats what I thought. I made my way around and found a black Q45. Who ever owned it did a lot of work to it. I found new lower control arm, which I purchased, than as I looked under the car, the person converted their Q to true dual exhaust. . I quickly called the guy over and we went back and fourth in price. Well I don't know who owned that last Q but I am now buying the entire dual exhaust and both front shocks for $400 installed. Wow, I won't lye I feel pretty lucky. They kept that exhaust clean. The cats where gone, but it has both mufflers, and chrome piping from where the cats would be straight out. I feel like its worth it. Who ever did the conversion knew what they where doing. So soon I will be pushing a true dual conversion. I swear I can't believe what I found.

Now to the questions, is there anything that I should look out for during the conversion? I won't lye I don't know much about converting to true dual.

The only part of the Q's OEM exhaust that isn't "true dual" is when it combines into the double resonator - which is walled off down the midde - basically two mufflers built in to one case.

Thanks guys, In my heart, I felt I made the right choice. They had it professionally welded on. I mean this person didn't skip a beat on conversion. I will show pics in a couple of weeks. I have to get her to pass smog first, then its the Fuel Pump, after that I will take pics

Which means it is truely a dual system. All the VH series were then the VK series went to a single resonator, which kind of served as a crossover.

Have you looked under your car before? It came from the factory with true dual exhausts, including dual cats- what is different with the junkyard system compared to factory system????

I am sorry for the misrepresentation of "true dual". Yes I saw that it is a true dual from the cats to muffler. I actually should have said this person split the back end. It now has two mufflers and single piping all the way from the cats to the back, with a single chrome tip on each side of the car. I can't believe this thing was just sitting there. I have seen in the past really crappy conversions in the past, but who ever did this, put some time into it. They had both ends professionally welded on either side of the car. Seeing as the salvage car was lifted I was able to fully inspect for rust and there was no rust on mufflers. Man, it was kinda sad to see the Q gutted to the bone, almost ghostly.

BTW, I haven't forgotten about the most important part of my day. Getting her smogged. All the shops I went to where not able to clean my EGR system till like Monday or Tuesday, so I purchased a bottle of Carbon Cleaner, and downloaded Mikes explanation on how to properly clean the EGR Valve. I am calling around for the gasket and screen now. Who ever carries them I will also purchase brushes. I have spare tooth brushes. I have tomorrow off in which I will use the day to carefully do the job. I also read Max's response to proper cleaning. Once she passes smog I will have the Fuel Pump done.

Don't get me wrong... I'm sure there are some small gains to be had, and you were the one there to see the setup. Please post up some pics when you get it all installed!

you guys are going to hate me, but I have decided not to upgrade with the dual exhaust split muffler. I started looking at the back of the car and realized there is an area for the combined pipes leading out the back. If I changed the set up, I would have to change the bumper for a more flush look. This is something I am not willing to do. I should have thought about that. So I am now just wanting chrome tips. If anybody knows where I can get some nice chrome tips from let me know. Also if anybody is interested in the dual exhaust I can give you the number to the junkyard and you can call them and see if they still have it.

A exhaust scientists and engineers KNOW, the farther the restriction is from the exhaust valve the less important it is.

A PSI of restriction after the first O2 sensor [as measured there] results in a ~~ 2 HP loss, while the same PSI measured at the rear [final] muffler has a loss of ~~ 0.8 HP as measured on engine dyno.

Before one contemplates any changes important to KNOW measure what the actual restrictions are at O2 bung and after cat to decide what can be achieved.

Ok I was confused at first but after re-reading your statement I see what your saying. Thats was something I was thinking about too. I think my only turn off was looking at the bumper and seeing how cheesy it would be to have a nice exhaust set up but a cheesy gap in the bumper. I figured I'd have to drop cake on changing the bumber, then painting it, and so on.....I'm just not that motivated.
