As of yesterday, my car started acting up. Its an 01 Qx4 2wd auto.

I already had code P0335 (crank position sensor) and I had just removed/cleaned it and orderred that sensor locally. But yesterday, I noticed my car wasnt shifting properly, on regular aceleration the car will shift into second smooth, but as soon as it goes to shift into 3rd..... transmission slips like a motha, revs up like crazy, sometimes shifts, sometimes the rpms just stay @ around 3k and that becomes its cruising rpm.... its like no power is getting to the transmission/wheels.

When cruusing maintaining the speed limit, it stays @ 3k and when you push the gas the rpms rise but the car BARELY accelerates.

I checked the transmission fluid level in the dark, and it seemed fine, but Ill confirm in the morning when its cold and on level surface.

So I put the scanner on it. P0774 Shift Solenoid E Intermittent

I have the FSM, but cannot find it anywhere in the damn thing. Can anyone point it out to me. Basically I have no idea whats going on here, and I think I may have to borrow my parents car to get to work tomorrow since I work 40 minutes away and give them cab money since there local....

I made a video of the problem and its uploading onto you tube right now, shows the problem much better than I can explain. heres the youtube vid, processing or some bs, Ill try imageshack

Any help appreciated

This problem been covered only a million times already...... its called the 2nd to 3rd gear shift flare.. Theres tons of enough info about it here on Nico.... spend a little more time searching and a little less time trying to think of unfunny LED comments, maybe ya would have found it ??

Did you watch the video fueler? this is NOT transmission flare, the transmission DOESNT shift, it does the little rev on 2-3 IF it shifts, but somtimes doesnt shift at all

My car also threw a code, all which knowbody else has had happen

Yes I searched, for almost 2 hours last night

Mine did that one day, freaked the living hell out of me. I took it immediately to my shop.

They threw in some "additive" (it's all they told me) and from then on it shifted smoother than it had the past few months.

I think someone got it right in your post in the gen chat section. Most likely stuck solenoid. I'd try a little seafoam in your transmission, just follow the directions on the bottle. Should help it out.

I'd avoid the lucas stuff though, some people swear by it, but from what I've seen it does more harm than help.

I actually added some lucas to the trans..... this fluid was just swapped like 2 months ago to....

I dont know if I will go as far as seafoam, but It hink tonight since theres nothing I can do at home, im gonna flush the fluid again since I have so much left over. And see what type of addidtives they sell at the store while im there

Yeah, I had that happen to me a few months after having my fluid flushed as well.

My theory is, some gunk in the fluid got broken loose by the fresh fluid and jammed a part of the solenoid. Some additive that helps break that s*** up will most likely fix your problem.

Best suggestion is to keep flushing it at 30K mile increments.

This just confirms my feelings re: transmission flushes.Every vehicle I've owned where I flushed or changed the transmission fluid, had problems after. This goes back over 30 years for me.In the cars where I left well enough alone, I never had problems. This includes my current rides.I've said it before on this forum, I will never change my transmission fluid.Having said that, I have changed my diff fluid, my coolant, etc., and religiously change my oil (synthetic), but not my transmission.(Doesn't really help with your problem, but at least I got to preach a little.)Thanks.

Well ive been doing it for the 12 years Ive been driving without troubles, just got around to doing it in the infiniti a few months ago... and now this...

Id love to know what kinda repair bill Im looking at though

Im leary of a simple additive fixing this

I did just flush the transmission fluid again twice tonight, still looked pretty clean obviously, but I had alot left over so why not.

Ill probly still take it to the shop and see what they have to say though

P0774 is NOT in the FSM (at least for my '01 PF). I have a full-text index of thewhole manual.

Silly question: Are you SURE you wrote the code down correctly?

Damn, I might be lying

Maybe it was 744

P0744 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Intermittent

I was gonna say torque convertor just from watching your video

P0744 is most likely the correct error code and 774 isnt in the FSM

Print out the pages for 0744 and bring it to a transmission specialist and tell him your symptoms.

I can see this problem being expensive though
