Here is my engine bay;

I found out very quickly that my turbo gets very hot when you're at full throttle in 5th gear for a while :naughty: It melted the hose going to the windshield sprayer, the sprayer itself, softened up the plastic on my brake fluid reservoir, and made the brake lines so hot you couldn't touch them. That is a problem.

So here is my solution;

Got all of it from a company called ThermalZero.com. I haven't installed it yet, but the turbo blanket and downpipe wrap should be pretty straightforward. I'll have to make the manifold blanket, but they sent me a HUGE sheet of this aluminized heat wrap, so I should have enough for the manifold, and a shield for the brake stuff, and a BUNCH left over.

More pics when I get it done. It's on hold right now until I get some brake master issues sorted out.

Glad I don't have to deal with that. :)

Lol turbos meltin stuff, it's times like this I love my bottom mount t28... But that wrapping and stuff should do the trick at least thats what my bro did to fix the problem on his diesel truck. His turbo is also top mounted and massive and pushed up right against the firewall lol :biggrin:

But be sure to post pics and let us know how it works out

Yea, there have been quite a few times that I wished I had stuck with the bottom mount S15 T28 on the stock manifold and shields. I've had heat issues even with the equal length. Oh well, I'm sure I won't be complaining when I've got another 100-150hp at my disposal, LOL.

I take it ur bro has a Ford Super Duty? Those are pretty fun trucks. I'm more of a Chevy guy, but a fan of Diesels, regardless of the make.

Pics are coming soon. I should have the brake stuff FINALLY sorted out this weekend/begining of next week.

Put some DOT 4 or that blue fluid (forget the name). But I hear you have to flush it out real well or even replace all the lines for blue..

Sounds like fun. Id risk alittle heat for moar powa!

F250 extended bed quad cab, thing is bigger than an excursion lol. It's got the 7.3 v8 pretty much a beast. It's crazy to see a truck the size of a tank get up and move like it does :dblthumb:

Those are the ONLY Fords I like (and Lightnings). If I had a a choice of diesel, there is no doubt I would get anything but an F250 turbo diesel.

You will have to confirm you have the clearance, but it looks like you might.

Make a steel plate with the ports cut out and the manifold bolt pattern in both right side up and upside down positions.

Drill the right side up holes the same size as the manifold's. Drill the upside down pattern holes smaller so they can be tapped to accept a set of exhaust studs.

Thread studs into plate and install plate on engine right side up.

Install manifold on plate upside down.

Hang turbo off now inverted manifold and install wastegate on "top."

Redo your downpipe, gate dump and oil drain.

Have a steak you pretty little girl.

Leave it to TMS to come up with the wierdest way to solve my issue, LOL! I'll stick with the thermal blanket.

LMFAO!!! I have a picture of you in my head, swinging a piece of wood at a vice with a hammer in it, wearing a t-shirt and untied high-tops

I made a little progress today. Got the turbo off and the manifold itself wrapped. It was actually pretty easy once I had the turbo off. Only took about 20 min.

Turbo out;

My old journal bearing T4 turbo. The twin scroll makes all the difference in the world though!

Manifold wrapped;

Downpipe will be tomorrow. I've got to remove it from the car to do it though. It's designed to drop out of the bottom of the car, and I don't know if I can get the car up high enough to get it out. We'll see what tomorrow brings I guess.

Here is the downpipe removed from the car, unwrapped.

And now wrapped.

All done!

So far it seems to be helping a lot. The brake fluid reservoir is actually closer than it was before and barely got warm after beating on it for about 30 minutes straight. Also, something they don't mention, is how badly this stuff smokes at first!!! Luckly I had read about it before had on another site, but I still wasn't prepared for the amount of smoke this thing made. It was actually still smoking a little after we were done for the night!

It does seemed to have improved spool up a little as well. That big T4 is hitting 5psi (that's the wastegate spring pressure) before 3K RPM on the highway!!! All said and done, it was well worth the money and effort. I still think I might put another heat sheild between the turbo and the brake master though, just to be safe.

Cool, I wouldnt think a blanket would improve the effectiveness of the spool but I have heard from lots of people that it does. I agree, just a thin piece of sheet metal between the 2 would be perfect.
