Well, this arrived sooner than explected! I got it off of ebay from another s13 owner who ended up parting out his 89 240 and didn't need the unused kit he originally was going to install.

he threw in a few extras, new valve cover gasket, new thermostat, and a new PCV valve.

Now I just have to get the radius arm bushing done in my Explorer so I can get the 240sx started!

The seller even photocopied an install guide for me, which appears to be excerpts from a FSM. Chiltons and Haynes would never be this detailed.

It really doesn't look that hard, just time consuming more than anything.

Anyone have a couple of tips to follow? I've read the archives but most were for the DOHC. I know to make sure shes at TDC, and to mark the direction of the distributor, but it says in manual to make sure the distributor rotor is al#1 cylinder spark position...if its not how do i do that?

If you all ready have the front of the car tore down (hoses, wires and fan removed) pull all of your spark plugs. Make sure that your negative ground from the battery is disonnected, some sensors will still activate with this connected. Get a breaker bar and a socket that will fit the bolt on your crank pulley and manually turn the engine while observing the position of the rotor. The plugs are removed so you are not building compression in the cylinders making it easier to turn.

cool thanks about the advice for pullin the plugs right away. i usually disconnect the battery for any such engine work. then i have to make sure the lil notch/mark on the crank is pointing to 12 o'clock so shes TDC....

I think I'm going to drop the oil pan completely even though this install doesn't require it.

Cuz I got a feeling that the remains of my timing chain guide are floatin in the bottom somewhere.
