I've had my 1991 240sx fastback for over a month now and it was running fine. Today, when i went to the gym, I turned off my car engine and got out of the car. Then a guy in the parking lot noticed that my stop/tail lights were ON as if I was stepping on the brakes. However EVERYTHING is off. The headlights are off, parking brake is off, everything. The only thing that will turn them off is disconecting the battery. can anyone pleaaaaaase tell me how I can fix this? I'm broke as hell right now and can't afford taking my car to the shop. ANY help will be greatly appreciated.Thanx

Probably the brake pedal spring is loose or fallen off and the switch is being activated, if you can't find the cause, a quick fix would be to tie the pedal to the steering wheel with string when you park so your battery doesn't die.

There is a stupid plastic grommet on the brake pedal arm itself that makes contact with the brake light switch which tells the brake lights to turn off. After 13 years, this plastic peice deteriorates and falls off, so now the brake light switch has nothing to tell it to turn off. Hence your lights are on all the time. Best thing to do is get a bolt and nut and plug the hole where the grommet was, metal wont deteoriate (over 13 years anyhow).

As a side note, i have done this repair, it sucks. Not only that, 2 months later, the plastic grommet for the cruise control (on the same pedal) came apart, rendering my CC useless for the same reasons. So basically, ive done this repair TWICE.
