My tachometer reads 1000rpms more than it should so at idle it reads 1800rpm and i can rev all the way and not get to my rev limiter, what kind of shop would be able to recalibrate it?

Do you have an s13? The I've heard the the s13 tachometers aren't compatible with the SR20det.

1989-1990 240SX KA24E SOHC Tachometer's cannot be used with SR's.

1991-1994 240SX KA24DE DOHC Tachometer's can be used with SR's.

1991-1994 Silvia/180SX SR20DE (T) Tachometer's off JDM vehicles can be used and will have the proper redline.

1989-1990 Silvia/180SX CA18DE (T) Tachometers will probably work.

1998 ish 180SX Tachometers with a grey face and orange needles will not work in USDM clusters. They will read the proper RPM, they just do no fit.

so if i buy a 91-94 HUD cluster the speedometer and tach will work properly with my s13 sr? or would i be better off getting a 91-94 180sx/silvia cluster? or do i just buy the tach and leave the rest of the cluster?

HUD are a subject I know very little about. If you dont currently have one then it wont help you to buy an HUD cluster. If you have HUD on a 1990 then it should work if you got a 1991+ HUD cluster in theory.

You need to swap in a 91+ Hud cluster, this will work, that's what I did. Or You need just the tach from a 91+ hud cluster and swap it into your '89 hud cluster, this should work, but I haven't tried it. Or you need a tach from a 91+ regular cluster, and swap it into your '89 hud cluster. This might work, if the tach is the same size, again, I've never tried this.

Measure the distance between the 2 and 3K mark on the oem tach, remove the needle rest and then the tach will sit on it's internal stopper. Rotate the needle counter-clockwise the distance measure between the 2-3 on the tach and you should be good to go.

Nice call on that s13 gregarious. since ANY 240sx from, 89-94 is a s13. sigh. To help answer the question...

The car you have came with a SOHC engine and the SR20DET is a DOHC engine. THe 91-94 240's were all DOHC KA's so you will need the gauge cluster from a 91+ or you can get a big aftermarket Tach if you want. The reason yours is off is its not made to read properly on a DOHC engine.

and for Greg, DOHC means Dual Over Head Cam, SOHC is single over head cam
