my tach has gone crazy

the other day my tachometer needle started going from 0 to 8000 over and over then back to normal then nothing. over and over. could this be the motor in the cluster or something else. and if so where can i source the parts to make my repair. if anyone has any ideas i would appreciate them. thank you from a loyal 240 driver.
