-------------------------------------EDIT----------------------------------------------------I have installed the wiring harness into the engine bay, but i went to plug in the injectors, and realized they were slightly different connection types than on the harness. check the pics below.

the injector

As the pics show they will not connect because of the plug design. I am not sure where to go from here. The only options i can think of are

1. Find new injector wires and solder them onto the harness2. bust out the xacto knife/dremmel and remove the tabs from the injectors3. use my xacto knife/dremmel to make the proper notches in the harness plugs.3. splice the harness so that i have a plug for those injectors, but still keep the others4. replace injctors (not gonna happen unitll i upgrade to 550s. no fundage for it now)

I am kind of stuck as to what to do. I am leaning towards option #3 because, unless i really mess up, I will be able to use the harness for other injectors also.

All the other plugs go into their respected places just fine.

As for a swap update:about 85% done, just need: ignitor chip/droping resistor for the harness (in the mail hopefully)an eeprom chip (thats a whol nother story)vlsd 6bolt flanges (in the mail hopefully)Intercooler piping.

-------------------------------------/EDIT-----------------------------------------------------

I was finally able to get the ka out and th ca in over thanksgiving break.... check out the pics below. Please forgive the ugly engine bay. My time was limited and painting it was the first to get cut. I plan on pulling the engine out when its time for real painting anyway.

I will skip the pics of me takin the ka out and get to the goodsCa sittin in the bay

me sittin in the bay with the ca

now for my questions...

1. This pic shows where I think everything should be conected to. Using the fsm, and nico posts for guidelines (mind you there is no internet at my parents house so it was a ***** to check nico for needed info). I just wanna make sure i am ok for these.

2. is of the nipple coming off the fuel rail. also wanna make sure its supposed to be a fuel return line.

3.extra vacuum tube from intake mani. I read somewehre on here it is to be blocked off? Is that correct? If so Can i use it for boost gauge or bov/wastegate lines?

4. The turbo coolant line is obviously missing some parts from the block ... so i just got some fuel lines and mated them together. But I dont think it is the best idea... Can i do this, or am i just askin to ruin my $h17.

5. The oil feed line was kinda wierd. I had them made for an sr, but when i got them, the banjo bolt i had (which i stripped and is now trash) did not fit into the turbo but the block. The other end that went into the turbo had a 90 deg bend in the pipe with a threaded nut type end which was separate from the actual tube. Since i do not have a pic of the lines i am hoping you know what I am talkin about, and please excuse my poor description of it.Anyway. I ended up using the banjo end on the block and threading the other end onto the turbo. but the non banjo end would only go about 1.5 to 2 full turns before stoping. I dont know if it was made to fit in there.... should i keep it or do i need to get an oil feed line re made ?

I also need another banjo bolt now ... which were impossible to find in my little town. So if anyone has some for sale let me know

The next step for the car is to take the week of xmas off ad do the following:

1.put on the lsd ( i still cant get the damn drive shaft bolts off...any suggestions... i got pb blast & torch but no real luck there.. and the bolts are gettin more stripped)2.do all the wiring, and toss on apexi multi checker)3. 90 N/A z brake up grade all around4. take care of misc vac/fuel hoses and parts that need to be hooked up 5.start her up!

iam almost positive that your fuel feed and return lines are messed up.. the lines coming from the pressure reg. is the return to the tank.

kapower06 is correct. Number 2 is the fuel feed line. It comes in through the filter, attaches to the pipe, and the return line comes out of the regulator back into the tank.

Number 3 is used for the bov iirc. At least thats how I'm using it and one of the vacuum diagrams floating around here said to do it. The vacuum port under the throttle body gets blocked off.

Thanks. It makes sense that the lines should be the opposite of what i have... concidering it has to keep the necessary pressure in the fuel rail.

As for #3 I will run the wastegate actuator and bov lines from that.

Any comments on the turbo coolant feed line(#5)?

I went through this exact same thing like two weeks ago, and it's a pain.

I cry for you here. I sincerely hope you have the engine out of the car, as that makes it infinitely better to see what you're doing here. You're right on the heater hose and coolant identification as far as I can tell. I just got done running mine. As for the vaccum and fuel stuff, I'm not sure, as that all came hooked up on my engine when it shipped ( thanks boost_boy ).

You probably already figured this out, but that big pipe up top on the back of the manifold goes to the brake booster, and the lower pipe snakes around to the pipe on the valve cover. Check the stickied FAQ thread for

Try to follow the diagram below for vaccuming. That's all the stuff you need to hook up. Anything else is optional, but will most likely help emissions and performance. I hear hooking up the variable intake stuff is supposed to be worth it, but I still can't figure that out and am just going to leave it for now.

Unless you're setting up a catch can, in which case set everything up like above, but for the PCV/Crankcase breathing crap, follow something in this thread:

you look happyand you look cooli want to help you lol

k, the fuel return foes from the rail, to the fpr (the small one that you have a vacuum line on, its the small one closer to the passneger side) then to the hardline on your chassy.

the fuel feed goes to the rail from the outlet on the fuel filter.

your vacuum lines look good, just hook that T to one of the ones under near the throttle body if you want. for the 4 under the intake manifold, you can remove those, there are two bolts hoding them on, they are just hard lines connecting vacuum lines to the back.

also there is a vacuum bung on the back of the itake manifold, you can use that or cap it whatever pleases you the most.

wastegate just hook up to a boost source. looks like you hace sr turbine from the pics so you wont have a nipple on the turbo, id get one welded to hot pipe or cold pipe or tee into your bov.also turbo coolant line looks ok, but id shorten that rubber line closer to the intake mani to shorten it some, why not.... if the motors still out that is. just make shure its not kinked.then the rest of your coolant lines i cant exactly see but did you tee them off?that big vacuum line is brake booster as you probably know.

if you want some more help (just dumb little questions that would waste forum space)hit me up on aim-sdtouge, or email or something.

good luck.

Yes I am very happy. This is the first time I have ever pulled/dropped an engine. I am a mechanical noob in a sense. And I did everthing with no external help So i was extra happy. As for being cool. I try but usually fail miserably .

I had a question about where the brake booster hooks up to . This post (zerothread?id=136442) shows the brake booster going to the smaller nipple on the manni. Which lead me to believe the bigger one goes to the left valve cover nipple, as shown in the catch can post pic .

Which brings up another question. The Valve cover nipple that connects to the cranc case in the pic, Is attatched to what I think is the butterfly actuator (next to the fpr). If that is the case Can i block off the crank case vac port, and still hook up the catch can like the suggested pic above? Or is there something i am missing.

One other concern I have is the turbo is realy up tight agains the mounting brackets. It was a tough time gettin the bolts on the bottom of the exhaust mani to tighen up so that there would be no exhaust leak. Should i clock the turbo a little bit, or is it just the way my ssautocrap manni is?

and finally where can i find various banjo bolts for the oil line to purchase (i think its an M10x?? and i would guess the pitch to be 1.25, or 1? It is necessary to get my car started.

Thanks,BJ

the oil feed from the block is a 10mm bsb(metric pipe taper thread) and then to a -4an ss line....i never used a banjo setup on mine. and if u dont want coolant to your turbo, u need a m14 x 1.5 stubby bolt (no longer than 1" )...the jap's always seem to block off the coolant line to the turbo in any option videos i have ...i does make sense, seeing that your coolant temp is lower, becaue its not gettin super heated, and it just another source for a leak to occur...im guessing..oil is sufficient enough to cool the center section

good luckengine looks clean..

I also had a quick question. Under my car today replacing the starter, I looked up and saw a bright green nozzle/bung of some sort coming off of the engine. I have no idea what it goes to, if it's supposed to be empty, etc. What am I looking at?

there should be a round plastic plug that plugs on the end of it. The car will still run and drive, but it will just retard the timing when it gets to a certain rpm. Is this what your talkin about ? Ill try and get a pic of the plastic plug later.

. That's it. Round green bung type thing with that little black band on it. You're saying there's a plug on the harness that snakes down there, or am I just missing some huge part? I just hope I can find that plug that goes down there.

It comes off the harness somewhere I assume? I'll try to find it tonight. Thanks.

Edit: Searched all over. Can't find a plug that looks anything like that. Closest I found was a rubber booted square plug, but it's clearly not the right one. Where in the harness does it branch off of? All the stuff coming off near the alternator is plugged in (except that one rubber booted plug which seems to have no home that I've found yet), everything before that at the starter is plugged in, and the only other plugs are misc. rectangular and oval plugs that I'm convinced literally have no home whatsoever.

I've you're using a KA-E lower engine harness, you won't have this plug. You'll have to hit up the junkyards and directly wire it into the main harness.

Did the KA24DE have one? That's what the old engine was (1991), I just can't find it for the life of me. I'm looking all over this car and it's pretty evident it's just not here.

I'm hitting the junkyard tomorrow, so what year/model should I be looking for to rip the harness out of?

I don't think either KA has one... 80's Pulsar has one for sure.

Damn I also need to dig up one of those. Will any of the pulsar plugs work, or does it need to be from a ca18de?

After searching sxoc I found the following info ... Confrim or Deny if you know.

BLock oil restrictor:90 deg angle with 1/8 bps going into block, and M12x1 for the other end.

Garret T25/28 turbo oil feed nipple: 7/16 UNF 24

I cannot check these yet to make sure.

Hi Man,

I took a quick look at the pics of the fuel injectors and their plugs, and here is what I concluded.

Your fuel injectors are for the none turbo ca18de, Which explains why the injector plugs won't fit, the ca18de non turbo injectors are keyed differently than the Ca18det.

I hope that helps.

^ agreed

I had a similar issue a couple of months ago. They also happen to be the wrong CC value (size) as well so even if they did plug in, you would have fuel issues with them when trying to run the motor...

dammit exactly what i did not want to hear. The person i bought it from (via nico) said they were 440s.

I am curious to know... The more I search around for injector pictures the more i think the injctors are correct, but my harness plugs are from a ca18de. Thesa ebay posts http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWDVWh ... rs...QrdZ1

has good pctures of the injectors, which match the ones i have in my vehicle. Suposedly they are for an rb which is a direct fit to the ca if i am not mistaken.

Can annyone help me confirm or deny the theory of the harness plugs being from a ca18de? If that is the case then i will upgrade to the clipless injector plugs off of a 95+ dsm.

I would do a more thorough search but there is only dialup in this house.

Thanks guys!

Here are couple things you can check.

First of all I am 99% sure your injectors are from a ca18de engine and not ca18det.

Stock Ca16de/ca18de injectors are redStock ca18det injectors are white, bit yellow.440cc injectors Rb style or pulsar gtir are yellow.550cc injectors are purple

To verify whether your harness is off a ca18de or ca18det, do the following, the easiest step is to look at the O2 sensor plug. The O2 sensor plug on the DET has 3 wires, on the harness not the O2 sensor itself. The O2 sensor plug on the DE has one wire, on the harness not the )2 sensor itself.

Here is what you have, since your injector plugs don't fit on your injectors, you definitely have a ca18det Harness. because the det injector plugs won't plug on the DE injectors, I know that first hand from experience.

So, yes you do have ca18de injectors with det harness, I hope you didn't throw away the injector plugs that you cut off your harness as you need them when you get the real det injectors in there.

Good luck,

Yeah, even the DSM injectors are different color at the similar 450cc level...

Sorry, you got ripped off! Incidentaly, how much did you pay for them? They look similar to the KA24E stock injectors also, so they might not be ca injectors after all...

i have not cut anything. as soon as i realized it i just left them and started to formulate what to do next.

As for gettin ripped off... they came with my motorset so its not that bad... altho i still will have to buy new ones. (i have verified the rest of the motorset is what i bought tho minus the eprom chip)

I was planning on eventually upgrading to 550s, so thats whats gonna happen now as soon as i get a good deal (ebay or local).

Yes they do look identical to ka24e inectors...

Thanks for the help guys everything is clear now.
