I got a sub and amp installed a few months ago. I'm using the Bose "premium" sound..but because of the bass limiter, it won't bump so well. So... I was thinking about getting a Pioneer D3, but I think I've come to the conclusion that I really have no need for a DVD player or Nav in my car. I'm interested in getting just a regular stereo. What are some good ones out there? One of my friends works at Best Buy, so I'm pretty sure I can get some good prices. Money isn't that big of an issue, but I'd like something nice. I'm still considering getting an in-dash DVD/CD player rather than just an in-dash CD player mainly because I want the big touch screen. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
too many to choose from, you've got to narrow it down more than that! you seem to still be going back and forth on what you want! There's a list of suggestions I could make if you only want a single din in dash cd player, and there's another list I could make if you want Nav/DVD players also. For the price that you would pay to get a name brand double din unit that plays cd's/ dvd's, you could get one that has Nav also.
If you look on ebay, you'll find a number of non brand name double din units that play cd's, dvd players... these units will most likey be from china, using inferior motors, monitors, etc, but they work.
If you just want to go with a single in dash cd player, then the pioneer premier unit DEH-P980BT is pound for pound the best around. It gives you ipod control, as well as nice color interactive screens. And of course is comes w/ built in bluetooth and it's Sirius and xm radio ready also!
If you want the fatory double din look with a flat screen, then as mentioned, the Pioneer Avic D3 , Kenwood DNX-7100, Eclipse AVN-6610, or Pioneer Avic Z2 are all good units. These are listed in order of increasing price, But all in all, I would say the Kenwood and Avic Z2 are the best out there. Pound for pound, again, Pioneer Z2 edges out the Kenwood due to1. voice recognition and control of navigation2. 12 million POI (vs 6 million for Kenwood)3. pioneer's more advanced navigation software w/ more visual route options and 3D detailed city maps vs the Garmin software in kenwood4. the built in hard drive allowing 10BG of music storage
One last note, thieves DO NOT like factory units because they are usually compatible with that car's equipment. The double din nav units look factory, and may not be as sexy a target for thieves as the obvious aftermarket single din units!
Good luck!
