and the joystick only causes a relay click sound (on 1992 q45) . The power telescoping adjustment works. I traced the clicking to a black plastic box under the dash labeled "steering controller". With an ohm meter it was easy enough to find the connector contacts that go to the tilt motor, and raise the tilt using a fused jumper and ground wire - the tilt motor works in both directions, and now that I've determined the power/motor connections at strg. cntllr. I can at least determine which relays drive the tilt motor, unsolder and check them, etc., no problem.

Yes, there is a question here: can anyone say what all else this black box does (other than the steering wheel tilt/telescope)? It looks a little too complex just to control steering wheel position.

Thanks, Drake

Is it labeled "Steering Position Controller", P/N 98800-60U01? If so I've got a couple from a 91 and 94 Q (same P/N) and can save you a lot of trouble. Email me if you're interested. As far as what else it controls I'm not sure but the electrical schematic pullout section at the back of the FSM will show it all. Good luck.

Thanks, I think that it is the steering position controller. Maybe I should rephrase - is there more to the SW position function than a manual joystick, such as memory, saved settings? Can anyone say what the cancel button below the steering position control does?

Thanks, Drake
