Hey everyone, I'm not really new here just haven't posted much.....search button ftw! lol anyway lets get started.
My brother showed me a decent condition black limited edition 240sx convertible and thats where the problem started, I fell in love with it. So we buy the car for 2300 take it to a mechanic and find out it needs a bit more work than we originally thought....suspension work, brakes, engine tune up...the whole deal. We fix rust, brake lines and damage from a deer accident. At this point I'd say we have dumped around 7k into the car. All is well and the car is running fine, I drive it a lot and develop quite a big connection with it. So then, right before I leave for another trip I sit at a red light, it turns green and I accelerate and a huge sound of metal exploding and smashing against each other comes from the engine and a bit of steam pours up from the hood. I pull over to the nearest gas station and they thought I smashed into a tractor trailer going 60 it was so loud. Some how the piston decided it wanted out and went straight threw the cast iron block on the old KA. Great opportunity for an sr no? Now comes the search for an sr I look everywhere on the web and forums to find one, then I find osaka. I call them and to my surprise their customer service is superb. I bagger them and tell them despite the bad things I've heard about them I believe they will send me a good engine, and they did. We bring the car to a reputable shop in Long Island to get the swap done in which it was completely half assed and only done to get it to work. The only problem was that the ECU Osaka sent with the engine was far from stock which eventually ran the engine to the ground. Now it sits in my driveway with no compression. One of my friends here where I live (who is a toyota genius and incredible mechanic) said that he would help me rebuild my sr after he's done swapping my brother a 20v in his GTS. He has rebuilt mostly toyota engines before so he will need a bit of guidance into the Nissan world. After loads of emails back and forth to Osaka we have managed to get them to send us a block for free but nothing else.
We are looking to built this engine for bullet proof reliability so we'll have the option for some nice power later on and use the stock t25 for now.
Any kind of guidance anyone can help us with in terms of building this SR properly and finally will be greatly appreciated so that once and for all we can have a reliable 240 with an SR swapped.
Thank you very much,
Zachary Maller
