I worked on a friend’s car Friday and had my (nearly 4y/o) son help me. He grabbed the wrong tools for me, sprayed water all over, and after draining her anti-freeze, he dumped the bucket out in the grass.

Sunday I get home to find he helped me again. This time he dumped the 5qts of dirty oil onto my cement driveway. So I go to clean it up…

1st attempt: Stand next to oil slick with beer in hand watching for it to evaporate. FAIL.
2nd attempt: Grab dried grass clippings out of yard. Spread on the oil to soak it up and then burn it. FAIL.
3rd attempt: Pour gas on charred grass remains and oil and then burn it. Awesome, but FAIL.

Any other awesome manly ways of getting rid of the oil? Pressure washer? Dragons?

that would do some pretty good work on it

there's also a this stuff my dad uses that's is essentially liquid kitty litter... you dump it on, let it soak up, dry up a little... then sweep it up. it kinda works :gotme

The only way to get rid of it is with a concentrated acid like muriatic or something similar, and that will leave it's mark as well. There is a product called Eximo that I remember, but I haven't used it personally.

Honestly, who would have a 4-year old seriously help out with shop stuff? lol, I say you asked for it.

They make stuff just for that. It's like kitty litter except it is used for industrial applications. It's called oil dry. The company that I worked for used it all the time. Great for hydraulic oil spills. http://www.google.com/products/catalog? ... CEAQ8wIwAg#

It that's more than you want to spend, the really, really cheap clay-based cat litter or play sand will do the job.

regardless - it will stain

It was sarcasm. I wanted him to be in the house, but my wife wanted him outside and out of her hair soo...whatever dad's doing, he's gotta do.

Although to his defence, he did, one time, get me a 3/8" extension, but he got me the 6" and I wanted the 4". I guess he can't tell the difference between 4" and 6". Oh well, neither can my wife...

I'm pretty sure that 4 years olds do have the same capacity for technical things as most women. Yeap.

Also, I honestly thought you were serious.

Go to Lowes and look in the paint section near the Garage floor epoxy finishes. They have a product that you pour on the concrete and let sit for a day and it will pull the majority of the oil out of the concrete. I had to use it when I epoxied the garage in our new house. It made the the concrete sparkle like a gay Vampire.

All you do is pour it on and let it sit for 24 hours. although that might be an issue if your drive way is slanted.

Good luck.

That and a pressure washer did it for me.

Fixed.

But in all seriousness, that stuff works very well. Follow up with some kitty litter from the dollar store. The kind made out of clay, not that politically correct "my cat needs a fresh step" shiz.

Don't forget to try and crush that kitty litter into the cement. Sounds crazy, and it does take a lot of work, but throw a BBQ up front and do everything on top of it and that'll do the work. Of course, pressure wash afterwards.

Well, you could try some denatured alcohol... that's close enough to moonshine...

My older boy is 4 1/2.. He helped me change the oil in mama's car on Sat. We had a blast. He was actually helpful and able to hand me what I needed (most of the time). Actually, he knows quite a few tool names thanks to Handy Manny cartoons. I just have to study up on the names on the show so that we can communicate properly... If I need a flat-head screwdriver, I just ask for a "turner".

I know some contacts but I have been gone from TN for over 10 years, + I wouldn't want to consume this stuff after seeing what it can do to dry tar. :tisk:

My recommendation is to look for a enzyme based oil spill cleaner. The enzymes will continue to work as long as the surface your cleaning remains wet, and as long as the oil is there. It will clean up the spill without damaging your driveway.

I'm actually selling something like this right now to restoration contractors.

PM me with your email address and I'll send you a product data sheet so you can ask them about it.
