Ok so after some more research it seems like everyone is just using a 14mm 12 pt, is that right? When we tried at my house, i held the crank with the 27mm socket up front and my dad used a breaker bar and it seemed to work. Only really it was just rounding the corners of the bolts. Ill try again sunday after pb blastin em. BTW, my pistons and rods should be in soon (prob mid next week), so ill post some pics when i get em. Thanks

fabrisuzu wrote:right, its held on by the 6 bolts, but dont i need to remove them to remove my crank? I might be missing something here (new to this motor) but when i rebuilt my last motor (302 v8) we seperated the flywheel and crank. I also will probably need to get the flywheel resurfaced because im putting on a new clutch, so it would be nice to remove it now. Plus i cant remember 100% but i thought you were always supposed to removed pistons from the bottom and install them from the top because of the build up at the top of the cylinder wall. i could be wrong thouh. Thanks
Hi. nice build so far.

You'll neeed to remove the flywheel to get to the rear main seal cover. I believe it's held by 6-9 bolts. Then, I believe, the crank can be removed. The pistons can be removed from the bottom. My .02.
What turbo set-up are you gonna use?

It is just a 12 pt bolt. I can't rememher if it's a 14 or a 13mm head though.

Thanks, i will def size the sockets myself next attempt just to be sure. It could have been the case of a worn out tool as well, so ill take a look when i can. I appreciate the help.

As for turbo setup i am going with an HX35 (currently being rebuilt at Majestic turbos who are great to deal with btw) mounted to a peak boost top mount mani with a turbosmart wastegate. The exhasut is vband, so i still have to make a dp, but other than that, lines (which will be made at ILL garage who are also great to deal with), and wrap the turbo side is done.

Realistically (to me) i would like to get to about 400rwhp. Thats what i am trying to build to, and thats what i told the guys at ILL garage because i seek parts, advice and tuning from them. We'll see though, i know i shouldnt get my hopes up, i just want my car back to dd status for next spring. Really, this all started as a simple headgasket swap that turned into a full on build once i found out my turbo seals went and started my new job. So it went from headgasket swap to head, cams, pistons, rods, turbo, mani, clutch, injectors/rail, and fuel management upgrade as well as some other odds and ends in no time at all, funny how that happens lol.

Thanks

Ok so small update:

-im still waiting for the new pistons and rods
-Contacted Majestic turbo, they just started to look at my turbo
-Finally got the rest of the engine taken apart, so pistons and crank are out, and i am contacting a family friend about the machine work.

Not much news, thinking bout the ati super damper, any thoughts? Also, planning on making a isis purchase from enjuku. I already have their short shifter and i really like their quality for the price.

Here's the lift of isis parts that im thinking of getting:
-big bore throttle body kit
-fpr kit and adapter
-oil cooler
-3" straight pipes

lemme know what you guys think\

hey everyone;

just a lil update here. I got most of my parts in/back. the turbo looks great, so major props to majestic turbo (they are great to deal with), my local machine shop (headline performance in south elgin for the block work), and ill garage for helping me out with everything (pistons, rods, and advice). now comes the slow and drawn out rebuild. I still have to clean the bay up a little bit, but that shouldnt take too long. Ill try to keep updating when i get something worth sharing done. The guys at majestic painted my turbo, and it couldnt have come out better! I'm sure some people wont like it, but it matches my wheels dead on and i think it will look good on the top mount mani with my blue valve cover and ic lines.

here are the pics:

So is the turbo orange or the wheels red? The pictures don't match up in color.

haha ya well that would be my crappy camera. both the wheels and turbo are orange. the wheels are a little brighter/the turbo has a little more red, but next to each other (which i didnt think to take a pic of) they look pretty close.
