Water injection is for queers...
100% Methanol, Ethanol or even Toluene is by far a better fluid for sub injection. The only thing water does better then the above is cool the combustion temps. But when speaking in terms of efficiency, you don't want to cool it off to much. Cooling equals loss of power and it often adds a lag effect to the turbo since the thermal expansion of the exhaust gases is slowed dramatically.
Anyway, sub injection can be used for a couple of things. I always used it when I reached the output potential of the octane/psi threshold. By that I mean I can't effectively add any more boost without detonation or having to retard to much timing.
You can also use it when you max out your injectors. Say you have 370cc injectors and are running 12psi of boost on the low setting. A good methanol injection kit will allow for an additional 8psi or so beyond that because it's reducing combustion temps AND is used as a fuel source. Effectively increasing your fuel flow even though the stock injectors are running at 100% duty cycle. Which is another thing you don't really need to worry about. Most injectors will run at 100% for a long time without any issues and since it's only when you're running the meth injection on high boost, it's not like they're spending a great deal of time maxed out.
There are many many good kits available today. They range from progressive type kits that ramp the fuel flow up and down with boost, down to the single stage on/off type.
I wrote and article on The Basics of Alcohol Injection, it should explain some of the fogginess and help you form some better questions.
I've been developing my own sub injection kits for personal use for a long time. Pretty much nothing I haven't thought of, so I'm sure we can help you out and get you running some big boost
