my sat night experience
so tonight i do my usual and puff the magic dragon, and then my friend calls me up and says hey come to the illegals (races), theres hella peeps out here. so i go and then when im just pulling into a gas station where everyone meets, like 6 cop cars come in to get peeps for loitering. i just never stop and keep driving to the exit and a cop still pulls me over cuz my tags are expired-but i have the lil "11" in my window for temp reg. so i tell him that its there in the window-which is tinted so he couldnt see it..:rolleyes , so he checks all my id and ish and comes back and says pop ur hood-thats when i start to get scared, im hella high, big pupils and he wants to see the redtop, great. he asks what i have and i tell him just an intake cone....and a new engine cuz my old one died...he looks at the motor for seriously 5 minutes, then asks me if i have a cat, i say yes-and i do have one, and he gives me a ticket for not having a front plate...:ylsuper wow-he even looked at the vin plate on the firewall and then at the motor to pretend he knew what he was doing.

I'm not sure, but I think we have the right to not let them search our car(that includes under the hood)...
at least thats what i think the law is in tx.
I probably would have **** myself right there in my semi-bucket seat. My swap looks really clean, but I have blue wires and pipes and things so it looks suspect. I can't believe the cop actually checked the firewall. Glad to hear the good news. -- I think at last resort, I would tell them it was a sentra motor I put some work into. It kinda is in a small way.

i heard thats true... because they dont really have a reason to search your car... they didnt even really have a reason to stop you either huh ?... something like the 5th amendment... 'unreasonable search/seizure' i believe ?... i dunno... i just learned this stuff in school so its probably iffy

i think its the 4th but it'll only make the cop more suspicious so i dont know

I always thought as long as the cop has a reason to stop you, then they can search your car and everything. in this case, he was stopped for not having a plate. it's a stupid reason, but they will do anything to pull you over in hopes that they find something illegal or something. happened to my brother.
In order for a police officer to look at your engine, they must have probable cause or a warrant. Without probable cause or a warrant they must have consent from the you, so if they say " pop the hood" and you say " no" they cant do anything about it. they might say something casual like "you mind if you pop ur hood?" if you answer yes then they would have consent.
Probable cause-n. sufficient reason based upon known facts to believe a crime has been committed or that certain property is connected with a crime. Probable cause must exist for a law enforcement officer to make an arrest without a warrant, search without a warrant, or seize property in the belief the items were evidence of a crime . While some cases are easy (pistols and illicit drugs in plain sight, gunshots, a suspect running from a liquor store with a clerk screaming "help"), actions "typical" of drug dealers, burglars, prostitutes, thieves, or people with guilt "written across their faces," are more difficult to categorize. "Probable cause" is often subjective, but if the police officer's belief or even hunch was correct, finding stolen goods, the hidden weapon or drugs may be claimed as self-fulfilling proof of probable cause. Technically, probable cause has to exist prior to arrest, search or seizure.
next time a cop pulls you over for a license plate and ask/tells you to pop your hood ask "for what ? I did not do anything wrong", see if the cop justifies his/her search
btw, if the cop gives you a hard time saying that he doesnt need prob cause or says he does but doesnt explain it or isnt justified, take him to court and the case will be thrown out and ruled in your favor because even if you do have an illegal engine (its not illegal to own it, its illegal to use it),it wouldnt matter bc that part of the evidence would be decalared unconstitutional and invalid in court bc the information/evidence was obtained infringing your 4th amendment rights and was obtained unconstitutionally. therefore making the case hollow.

I'll help you guys out, I specifically asked this question in law class. The only way a cop can search your car is if he has reasonable suspicion of some sort of wrong doing, or he can visibly see some sort of evidence pertaining to a crime. But he definately can't check under your hood because of loitering!!

You should have gotten busted hardcore for being on drugs and driving. Stupid kids like you kill family and friends, mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers every day. You have absolutely no right to be driving a fast car, probably no right to even be driving. Thanks for endangering everyone on the road. Get a grip, grow up, do what's safe and do what's right or get off the road.

Im not sure how many of you guys have ever smoked weed, but those of you that do know it doesnt affect your driving anywhere near what the government wants people to think. take alcohol for example, I am positive more people drink some form of it than smoke marijuana. alcohol, even in a controlled invironment, is more destructive to the human body/brain than weed will ever be. also, the affect weed has on reaction times while driving is nothing compared to that of alcohol. I speak only from personal experience, and several studdies Ive done, that while weed is illegal, far too many people do not understand the differences between alcohol and weed. I beleive there are like 17,000 deaths a year involving drunk drivers, how many deaths a year from dui of weed that has been proven? really all Im trying to say is that while its not ok to drive under the influence of either substance, weed is nowhere near as influential in your driving performance as alcohol is. as far as the whole personal experience deal, we were all young and stupid once, some people more than others, but still. there are alot of other points I would love to discuss, but Im tired of typing.
if you do decide to smoke or drink, please do so responsibly. it is a personal decision and I dont think people should look down on it like alot do. just my .2 cents.

I would like to say that (smoking weed, alchohol) is a personal decision THAT IS ILLEGAL, when driving, far beyond the means of any "illegal" engine being used in a car. Now it would be nice if we could all obey the law all the time, but there are do's and dont's in a particular code of conduct dealing with speed and driving. Hopefully this means you understand that none of us should be entering a vehicle under the influence of any substance, illegal or not. If not, i hope all who break this code get arrested.

Your argument isn't very good because you try to justify driving while you're high by saying that it's not as bad as drunk driving.
I don't really care what you do with your life, as long as it doesn't affect the lives of the innocent. I guess you're also making Americans look bad by doing weed, but I don't really care about that either...
