I don't have near the patience that positrone must have(awesome build thread man). But I have started the removal of the KA engine out of my 1995 240sx 5spd.

I bought the car thinking it was 'blown', and after getting it home I questioned if it was truly bottom end noise(no metal shavings in oil). I took her for a drive one night thinking it either get a lot worse or stay the same . Well I didn't make it home(stupid cops pulling me over for noise..)

The car had a very very bad oil leak, I think it was from an overtightened oil filter(Had to use a screw driver to break it loose). Which probably led to low oil and a spun bear/rod knocking.

Here is some vids when I got the car.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sW2eRgrq ... KFGR-FenX0

Notice how dirty the motor is. I pressured washed it hardcore after removing the rad and fans.. and its still pretty dirty on the bottom half.

Here are some pics from today's work. The top harness is completely disconnected, trying to figure out if I really need to pull it out of the car or not. The radiator/fan/hoses are out. The power steering pump is sitting on the side. Some of the lower harness has been disconnected.I also removed the hood and bumper.

Things left.. remove the rest of the bottom harness connections, unhook the A/C(bad compressor anyway). Drop the driveshaft/transmission and get a hoist.

I think its pretty close to coming out.

'good ole boy engineering' problems.

That wire ran into the fuse box, and powered the electric fans(sometimes). I think it either rubbed raw, or melted from being over the engine.

Its spliced into a wire besides the battery.

I only gave 600$ for the car, the clearcoat is coming off, and it has hail damage. The driver headlight was busted from a deer smash and the front corner of the fender had a small bit of damage for it. The interior isn't torn, and its a 5 speed car. I figured for 600$ I couldn't get hurt very bad.

It will be probably end of march before I order the motor. I wanted to get this motor out, and be 'comfortable' in doing so before I even order the sr20 . I've built V8s for older muscle cars, but this is my first import to be working on. So many wires!@!

Going to get the jack stands and jack and hopefully get the driveshaft out and transmission mount off today. If I can find a hoist, I may even get the motor pulled this weekend.

Well dang those driveshaft bolts do NOT want to come out... I didn't have my hammer with me so we tried just pushing, pulling, hitting it with anything we had..

Would not budge!@!

I double checked that I was doing the correct spot. It be the diff side of the drive shaft.. Right?

I am going to head back out there with a heavy little hammer and see how my luck goes today.

Took the AC Compressor out yesterday. The one in it was locked up tight. Still debating A/C on my sr20... I think the g/f will decide that for me though .

So after talking with some friends they suggested I do a compression check before I just write the engine off.. and kind of follow this line of thinking..

Compression Check good ------> Drain oil-->no metal in oil -----> drop the pan ----> no metal in pan ---> pull the lifters and compress them in a vice...

I should find by the end of that what is causing my motor knock, my hunch is a spun bearing.. but if the car fails a compression check then I can stop there.

So I grabbed a compression tester and went to the car. Dropped my battery back in and hooked the cables up... turn the key and no crank. I've completely unhooked the top wiring harness and a couple spots on the lower(alternator). Considering the car ran before I took the harness off, I assume this is the cause.

Does anyone know what cables must be connected for the car to even turn over for a compression test? Dist? knock sensor?
