I started on the rear subframe since I got the front mostly finished. I just need to get the car rolling.

Burning the bushings out

Done burning the bushings out. I cut 2 slits in the collars each across from each other with a sawzall and then pounded them out with a prybar.

Whats left of the collars and bushings.

I'm going to get the subframe rewelded in some places and I need to make it a little stronger. Then hopefully clean it up and get it painted or powdercoated then install my suspension, links, sway bar, rear 5 lug, etc.

Did you just soak the bushings in something flammable then light them up?

Cars looking good man

Yeah I did, if I was to do it again I would get a hole saw as close to the collar size and drill it out next time. Burning them made it much messier and took awhile.

Its funny how it got darker outside as the bushings burned. It just showed how long it takes and how much of a pain in the *** it is.

I cant wait 'til this things finished.

Test fitted my 3 piece BBS rims the front are 17x9 +35. I slid some 20mm slip on spacers, so that makes it a 17x9 +15. I still have to play with camber and etc, I just eyed it for now. You can also see the new paint on the 30mm aluminum calipers.

I'm thinking of keeping he BBS rims now. I cleaned one up and it looks pretty decent.

I have some Z32 rear calipers in the garage sitting the last year and a Z32 brake master and some ATE super blue brake fluid. Also SPL stainless steel lines. Thinking about going with a c&c hand brake.

Figure I would update this a little. I sold the BBS rims. Probably throw the Forgelines back on when the time comes. I will have some pics of some of the work I got done this weekend sometime. I also ordered my motor, it should be here end of next week. I will take some pics when it shows up, I'm not saying what it is, just that I will be using Megasquirt on it.

*Coughs ...ca.... Cough* Hehehe. Great choice. I might plan on going the same route with the megasquirt once I get the engine but the engine should be tested first with the stock equipment for a couple months. Keep us posted. Great work so far!

only thing that sucks about taking subframes off is if you dont have a lift. Other than that just get some wd40 or something to losen the bolts and get an extra long breaker bar (a pipe extension). Thats all, very straight foward and just make sure you have a way to organize the bolts (divider box works nicely).

Its very easy. Take off the brackets on the front of the subframe. Then take off the 4 big main bolts. Then disconnect the ebrake cables and rear driveshaft bolts to the differential. Then disconnect the exhaust and it drops straight down.

Stripping it down is harder then dropping it out.

Well my plans changed a while ago, only maybe told one person on the board and a few friends local. I'm going to be running a LS1. Motorset is out of a 01 Trans AM(350hp version) with 41K. Pretty sure its the later LS6 block, it has the LS6 intake manifold. I will have to check the block number online.
