Hey everyone, The name is Ryan, I just picked up a 1990 240sx Hatch SE 5 speed, 177k on her and from it living in New England it has its fair share of rust. I Baught the car for $700, For the bad, It has a blown head gasket , and a Broken windshield. Needs window regulators and some new metal.

I plan on Buying a silvia front clip to replace it all with factory metal to swap over making this restoration way easyer, cheaper and also for the RHD swap. So then i am forced to use the SR20det as i was planning on using the RB25.

I would like to thank (m tr4nch) and (CA20det) For thier resto threads wich made me have motivation to keep chuggin along on mine.

Heres some pics sorry i got my camera a week after i started tearing down

I'd like to know why you are going to go RHD? It's quite annoying and silly for anywhere in the US... and most folks around aren't going to get the whole "JDM bling" thing either...

I'm not flaming you, but now is a good time to get your reasons out anyway.

I am goin Rhd cause my firewall has some rust so why not go rhd if i can and get rid of the rot, plus to be different and unique. I do not care if they do not know about the jdm "bling". There is plenty of people around that will acknolege that its RHD.

I am also waiting for my dirtbike to sell on ebay to go pick up a front clip in New Jersey.

My welding set up, Lincoln Pro Mig 140 and just fabbed up the rolling frame for it.

Started cutting out rust in the trunk and made a patch

Holy jesus that is a lot of rust I think you even beat out m tr4nch. I would strip the entire car down and have it sent out to be blasted, then you'll have a clean slate to start cutting out all the rust. Props to you personally I would've passed on that but I'm interested now to see how this project goes.

So , today i removed steering assembly, dash, dash brace, and carpet and packing them in the oil room. Behind the carpet i found more rust by the inside of the rocker, must be from the white wire cover holding in moisture! Ah well i will cut it out of the front clip. I just keep telling my self it could be worse and keep chuggin along. It can easly be patched. They should make reproduction 240sx unibodys like they do for 1969 camaro's! . I seem to have no choice but to put it on a rotisary to get all of the rust. Heres some pics

glad i am inspiring people but DAMN that is way worse than my car. it can be done though. i guess it depends on how far you're willing to go with it. i had rust in some of the same spots you do: those interior rocker spots, the upper door hinges (which is a manufacturing flaw btw), etc.

good luck with it man, i'll be checking up on this thread

ps. i believe you're talking about ca20det

my god how in the world do you get rust here?

Do you plan to remove all that tar sound deadener? Some rust is probably hiding underneath that.

Well, today i went to a swap meet and hit the jackpot, I picked up BRAND NEW 300zx - Aluminum 30mm front calipers, Slotted front rotors, Aluminum rear calipers, Agency Power front and rear braided conversion brake lines, Rear brake pads, S14 aluminum rear spindles ( not sure if they will work on s13), all caliper hardware rear 5 lug hubs and Tein tension rods. I got all of this for only $300 wich is pretty much a steal. The guy i baught them from was building a s14 for some kid who put $15,000 into it and ran out of money so the guy was selling everything. He also had a complete S15 conversion with carbon hood, jdm bumper, fenders, and headlights for $1200 wish i had the $ . Here some pics

WOW. Way to save hatch. Have you looked into media blasting for the rust issues? When I stripped mine I used 30 grit black glass and that made it so much faster, but mine was all light surface rust.

I do plan on sandblasting everything, My dad has a sand blaster i can use but i do not have a compressor. Since i plan on sandblasting and painting the car i need one with a 60 gallon tank or bigger. Then i have to get an outlet wired to feed the 220 volt motor on it. Home depot has a 60 gal for $450 but im going to keep looking aroud, since i still have a little more time before the 240 is totaly stripped. This weekend i plan on making the same car dollie M tr4nch made for his to be able to wheel it out and sandblast outside and hope fully get it done before the snow begins to fall.

I just need my dirtbike to sell so i can get the front clip, this is it's second week on ebay, and this economy is not helping.

Hey guys, well i havent posted and update in a while. I changed my mind about the way i am doing this car.

The Bad - I cant seem to sell my dirtbike to get some money for a swap.

The Good- I got a 350 chevy with 20,000 miles on it for free and i can get a 5 speed for 75 bucks so i plan to put it in this car and drift it the way it is. My next update will be when i am mocking up the sbc 350 in it.
