Yeah, I went under and looks like nothing even remotely got touched and it drives well and no new noises lol...philipa_240sx wrote:Couz, I've removed my bumper last year after a minor ding, there isn't much behind there to worry about. All of the critical stuff (suspension, muffler) is well underneath the car. You have to ding it pretty hard to even touch the sheet metal in behind as there is a 2-5" air gap.
Read the Backup Sensor thread, there are some photos there:

Thanks very much Nick...appreciate it.Nick 568 wrote:It really depends on how bad the bumper got hit as to if they can repair it or not. If it has deep gouges, it will have to be replaced. But if they're not too deep (like, 1/8"?) they can be filled. But since it's plastic, it's harder to do, and generally not recommended because in the case of another impact (even if it's just a small one with no damage) the whole bumper will flex, and the bondo will not, so it'll crack; ruining the repair. Most shops will repair it again under warranty in my experience though.
But yes, assuming the bumper can be repaired, it can be repainted to look like brand new. I backed into a vehicle with mine a little less than a year ago, and the shop made it look brand new again...minus the black plastic part on the bottom which got scratched some because that cannot be repaired. You would have to replace the whole bumper if the black plastic part on the bottom of the bumper got damaged. But of course, as to it looking good as new, that depends on the shop. My family has had to take one of our cars back to a shop three times, and were never satisfied with the job they did. If the color didn't match, the paint was cracking. But it sounds like you're using a reputable shop, so it shouldn't be an issue.
By the way, mine is a Venom Red, and the shop had no problems matching the paint.
As far as other damage goes, since the body shop you're taking to is your dealer, you could always ask them to inspect the vehicle for you too and make sure everything checks out.
Lol...in a way I put a positive spin on it because that was the only area on the whole car that had a scratch from nicking a wall while backing up, so that'll be done too.Leo2005 wrote:Sorry for the accident but if somebody would hit me in a bumper I would say: "WOOHOO!!!"...Time for the "Krom Bumpers".
Bumper covers are typically just replaced in my experience.Couz wrote:It definitely got bent a tad and I find I'm skeptical on how they reshape plastic to take the bend out.
nds an evaluater to check my damage and comes up with an estimate and sends the estimate to my body shop of choice (mine is Spinelli Nissan) and they do the work.takeshi wrote:Bumper covers are typically just replaced in my experience.
I somewhat got good news today, an evaluater is coming monday to see the damage but the agent I spoke to today said it looks like it won't be my fault, which it wasn't...but that will all be determined after an investigation.sileung wrote:I've had my bumper hit which resulted in minor scratches. I took it to the body shop that does all the work for all the cars in the automall I got my car from and they quoted me $800 for the bumper to be replaced.
Of course this price was given knowing that I was going to go through insurance, but I'm sure they'd give you a break if you decide to pay for it out of your own pocket (or the pocket of the person that hit you)
With insurance nowadays, I decided I could live with a few scratches and opted not to get it replaced.
It depends how you go about fixing your bumper whether you're paying for this yourself or going through your insurer.Couz wrote:

I'm not sure they'll recommend a new bumper because its pretty minor but if its only $800 I hope they go with the new bumper.
I have no idea how any of this works...do i get a say in how this is fixed or do i have to abide by their decision in how its repaired??
Well it looks like I won't be responsible.sileung wrote:

In my experience, most insurers try to limit the amount they have to pay out and in most cases if the damage isn't that great, they will just pay for repairs instead of a full replacement.
My problem with insurance (not sure if this applies to you), but every claim you make regardless if you're at fault or not can be a negative contributing factor to your insurance rates. It's bizarre how it works because you get insurance in case anything happens, but then you end up getting charged a higher premium even IF YOU'RE NOT AT FAULT! Because of this, I try to not get my insurance involved.
On the other hand, if you were able to work out a deal with the person who hit you, then I would just get the bumper replaced and have that person pay for the invoice.
Yup, insurance is all about assessing and managing risk... the risk of having to pay out a claim! They are run by bean counters after all. There are many ways they assess your 'risk':sileung wrote:It's bizarre how it works because you get insurance in case anything happens, but then you end up getting charged a higher premium even IF YOU'RE NOT AT FAULT!
That's very responsible of you. I'd be willing to bet that 99% of people would not have bothered calling and informing anyone about the sign they took out, lol.philipa_240sx wrote:I called the city and they repaired the sign no questions asked.
