I was perusing the ol' 240sx.org FAQ when I read a review from someone saying that if you have a very snickety-notchy-grindy S13 transmission (like most of us do) to use Redline's 75w140NS fluid (no-shock). I also added 1/2 a bottle of Amsoil gear fluid that was left-over from my departed white s13.

I just got back from my test-drive and let me tell you guys. ..this stuff is the ROXORZ!1. When i drained the dranny it was a dark black color which is about normal except 1/2 thru some clumps came out. Ugh. The car would slam itself into first gear no matter how gently you shifted, and would occasionally grind 2nd or 3rd. Now it shifts like there is melted butter in there (has the consistency of honey when i poured it in). It's awesome. I highly recommend this fluid, and it reads on the bottle that its fine for newer cars too.

Yeah I just put some of there stuff in my car, I dont have any idea of the history of it, so im babying it for awhile, replacing all fluids. I have some issues with grinding third, which i hoped to eliminate. All in all im pleased, grinding is less of an issue, and shifting is smoother. The amazing this is that my friend put some in his jetta(which had fluid in it that was only like 20k miles max old). He had had some really bad grinding issues when upshifting to third fast, so he had to take it granny slow everytime, not allowing him to make good use of his racing clutch and flywheel). After using redline, no more grinds. Everyone should use this stuff

i switched to redline when I found out the mobil one synthetic i was using wasnt gl4 or whatever that rating is. The redline definitly works wonders. Did you notice it kind of smells like pine needles too? Well, as much as gear oil can smell like pine needles...

hmm dont know about that, wish it did though, cause I ended up getting it all over me. I was doing the fluid change late at night, and I was tired and frustrated. I forgot to put the drain plug back in before filling it, and the car barely jacked up, so I was pretty much pinned under the car. I started pumping the fluid in, and it just started dumping all over my chest. I couldnt get that damn smell off me for a day or two.

I've heard of a few people saying that they are "pumping'' the oil in the car. If your using a pump, could you show a pic or link to what your talking about.

There's a sticky about changing transmission fluid over in the Articles Forum. Easiest way to add it in is through the shifter hole. here's the link:zerothread?id=95826

Where can you find this Redline gear oil?

Um, google? There are a lot of distributors around.

Man, talk about a thread resurrection.Filling the transmission thru the shifter hole is the easiest, but I had a hard *** time getting the stock shifter out (taking out my short shifter is a piece o cake).

Yeah, I disagree on this one. The filler plug is the easiest method. This also when you know what quantity you put in, assuming that some oil (even the smallest amount) was not possible to drain.

Filling through the top of the transmission is easy if you want to disassemble the console boot shift assy. I guess, I would just prefer to skip this extra work unless you were replacing the shift mechanism or the boot due to a leak, or a short shifter upgrade at the same time as the gear oil change.

There is no other way to pour oil into the transmission, except through the shift opening. Gear Oil has to be inserted with a fluid pump unless for some reason the motor and transmission were not in the car, and then you'd probably want all the fluids out of it, so that you could get the motor and transmission into the car more easily.

IMO

i love RedLine products!!

a friend (engmus) and myself found out that Advanced Auto Parts *lies* to an extent to customers

they say they dont carry ANY redline products anymore, but infact using their "customer" computer to search we found that a warehouse in VA had abotu 3 cases of engine oil and a warehouse in a state(forget which) has gear oil.....what am i getting at

go down to yuor local AAP and askt ehm about this, then tell them to check Nationwide inventory, soemthing should pop up
