My Reasons of getting EX over other brands.

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

When I was in a market for a compact suv, i compared 3 well-known vehicles from luxury brands and these are couple reasons i picked EX over other brand vehicles.

08 ACURA RDX

08 BMW X3 3.0SI

08 INFINITI EX35 JOURNEY

1. First of all, I am young driver(27 yr old male with couple tickets) so the main concern was Insurance, as most of you guys know, EX is considered as Small Station Wagons, other than SUVs, giving us huge difference in Insurance Premiums, i quoted 3 vehicles to my insurance company, Nationwide insurance and EX was cheaper by $60, which is $85/mo, premium for Acura RDX was bit higher than X3, interesting.

2. Next important thing was Performance, 297HP in EX was just most i could imagine for an SUV, compared to 260 in Bmw, 240 in Acura. I have heard X3 has better suspensions/cornering, and Acura has better braking system, but i could not feel any difference in cornerings/brakings.

3. MPG? they were rated about the same, acura had lowest numbers, BMW had 1 mpg higher than EX AWD, i could manage it by choosing 2WD version(In S.CA, i dont need AWD)

4. Designs, you guys know EX is the best. Options? the Best. Interior? the Best.

I liked the idea of an RDX putting S2000 engine with Turbo, but actually it didnt do nothing but giving more TQs, and i have a strong belief forced inducted engines have shorter life than normal ones, just like We cannot find high mileage WRXs with good engine condition.

I have always liked the BMW family looks but unfortunately, X3 was on the market for around 5 Years and was about time to change its body styles. I would hate to see my like new X3 has old body style. 08 EX is the first model so im safe for next 3-4 years.

and the best of all, I just could not pass the 0% financing for 72 Mos!

What are your reasons? and correct me if i was wrong.

i compared the same vehicles as well. acura wasn't even in the same ballpark for many reasons. hp, horrible lease rates, their attitude, etc.

we have a very good friend at the local bmw and it was really tough to not purchase their x3 with the "m" package. it was a great purchase and he let us have it for dirt, dirt cheap. one thing to note is that bmw doesn't really build the x3. some other company does. from what i know, it's the only vehicle that bmw allows this to happen.

but at the end of the day we went with the ex because of the overall value.

I started off my search with the "lower end" small SUV's to include the Rav4 and CRV. I quickly walked over to the RDX and gave one a test drive. While the handilng was crisp and probably a bit better then EX I did not want to tinker with another turbo car (previously owned a 2006 WRX LTD and a 2007 STI).

I then started to look at the "higher end" offerings. I sadly never made my way over to BMW due to their cost.

For me the Infiniti was priced right, had a reportedly awesome motor, and once I found a good dealership to buy from I was sold.

There are plenty of high miles WRX's out there that are doing fine. The issue is that MOST people abuse them and do not maintain them. There is however a difference between lugging around 3,200-3,500 lbs with a 4 banger turbo compared to near 4,000 lbs that the RDX will lug around. I wasnt overly thrilled with that idea.

All said and done I am happy with my choice. It'll be mine for roughly 4 years and hopefully I'll be able to shop again. I'm VERY excited about Audi's new offerings and even the X6 but they will probably be out of my price range.

For me I wanted a sport wagon that had enough power to get out of it's own way and wasn't afraid of a corner. I would have looked at the Subaru Legacy GT Wagon but Subaru discontinued it in favor of the ridiculous, IMHO, Outback config. So after driving the 328 wagon, a real yawn with 6speed auto, the EX 2wd was the best fit for me. I am coming up on a year of ownership and the overall niceness of the total EX package has really started to win me over. If I could upgrade the swaybars I would almost be there. The lack of a real mechanical limited slip differential is one of the EX design sins I can never forgive though; one of the same rants I have about the 3 series.
