So I'm too lazy to update all my recent progress in the build thread, but I figured I would post a few pics of my rear differential before and after I gave it a little TLC.

Before:

Throw in a few coats of POR-15, some handy work with the Dremel, and of course some new hardware, ANND

Actually, I really can't looking at these pictures. This has REALLY inspired me to do something similar.

Where did you get your hardware and such? I think I'm going to do this to a spare pumpkin and drop my 2 way in it.

My only recommendation is to use an actual allen socket on the cover bolts. If they're not torqued down enough, it'll leak. I can't imagine getting too much torque from a regular allen wrench.

So since your rear diff is balling, hows the front one? On a more serious note, is that the POR 15 engine enamel? I need to paint my Harley motor, and that looks great.

I ordered all the new hardware for my suspension project and the rear diff from Fastenal. The allen bolts are M10x1.25 x 30mm. The drain/fill plugs are Moonface as Omega pointed out and you can get them at FRSport. lol and yes, I used an allen socket to tighten the bolts :gapteeth:

haha to answer your question I just used the regular gloss black POR-15 rust preventative paint being that I am coating suspension components for my project. I know they make their engine enamel in black as well, and IIRC, the complete "engine painting kit" they sell is only a few bucks more than what I paid for just a 1qt. can of the regular paint. Regardless, it's great stuff and I've had nothing but awesome results with it.

Very cool.

I really appreciate when someone takes the time to go full-bore on detailing out patrs o their car. Whether it's a full restoration, or just a piece at a time, it shows pride in your work.

If I replace a part, I try to NEVER put it back all dirty / nasty. At the very least, it gets bead-blasted or pressure-washed or wire brushed and degreased... sometimes, I'll spend an inordinate amount of time detailing a part, just because it's something that the manufacturer put a lot of effort into designing and engineering, and it's beautiful all by itself.

AZ-The crappy part is this car has already been refinished once, just not as good as it should have been. Almost every thing was taken apart and painted before, and it was mostly stock, ie 4 lug, stock suspension arms, etc etc, they just didn't prep worth a crap and used semi crappy looking colors.

But yeah I completely agree. I'm assembling a s13 hatch from the ground up, cage, rb20det, modded knuckles and every thing I touch is getting cleaned and painted. And what I don't get to right away, I probably have a spare of, so it will get cleaned painted and put on later. I cant wait to get some real progress done and post pics....
