Ok tested the compression on the rb25 today.

Conditions: no fuel rail bolted in, done cold as the motor hasn't been started since the Jap owner gave it up however long ago that was. All trials completed one after the other.

Edit: no throttle body on

Trial 1: (no spark plugs in)

Cyl 1: 140 2: 180 3: 140 4: 115 5: 135 6: 162

Trial 2: (spark plugs in non tested cylinders)

Cyl 1: 150 2: 180 3: 138 4: 142 5: 142 6: 160

Trial 3: (no spark plugs in)

Cyl 1: 150 2: 180 3: 145 4: 142 5: 144 6: 160

Maybe after the car starts up with fuel etc.... then I can check after its hot and maybe everything will look better?

What does everyone think?

Thanks,Daniel

i dont think you are doing the test right, make sure the throttle is all the way down and dont stop cranking till the numbers stabilize. do the test with no plugs and post the results (if you didnt have it at WOT on any of those tests)

Oh yea. there was no throttle body on either so that rules out the WOT thing.

And as always, I keep cranking till it stops going up.

i honestly dont think it looks bad especially considering the motor isnt even hot. I'll bet the numbers go up a little more and stabilize more once its been running. Try it again then

We had the same problem. In our case it was, dirt and rust in the valve seats, because the time the engine spent in the junker. Take the head off and clean everything real good with like 5 cans of carb cleaner.

hahaha im an idiot.

anyway since you havent even RUN the engine i wouldnt worry too much about those numbers, they are within range for the car to run but heat it up and do it again after driving and burning some of that **** off.

my RB showed 163-168 on all 6 when i cold-tested my compression on my clip.

Why don't you get it running first? No sense in jumping the gun. I would be worried that you don't have enough lubrication while you're cranking the engine over and over when those seals have been starved for a while.

Am I the only one that is paranoid here or am I not thinking right?
