Turns out that brash pilot bushing is supposed to be there, so we pulled the engine and trans out to press it into the flywheel but heres the problem. we cannot get that **** trans back on. bushing slides right onto the input shaft. 300zx n/a clutch. What can cause the trans to not go all the way on? We've wrestled with it all day. anybody got ideas?

ok, not trying to be a smartass I just want to make sure I understand the situation. You have pressed the bushing into the end of the crank not slid the bushing onto the input shaft and then try to force it into the crank that way right? I`ve seen someone try it. If you pressed the bushing in did you damage it going in?

Transmissions never go on easy. It's a ***** but you'll get it eventually if you want your car bad enough.

Does the transmission feel like it just halts and hits something solid? If not, then there's likely not a problem and you'll just have to fuss with it.

Ok, make sure you have the old bushing out of the crank, then pound the new one in with a wooden dowel so as not to damage it, and only pound it as far as it should go..if you go all the way into the crank it will crush the bushing inside because there is an internal step where it is supposed to stop. I pounded mine too far and it crushing it slightly and the trans wouldn't go back on.

ALso, make sure the clutch alignment tool slides into it smoothly, sometimes have to file the bushing down on the inside a bit if it has been pounded in too hard and the end is folded over a little.

That's how to do it

thx for the info, and yes we did break one pilot bushing so far. it should be in correctly now, but we're still trying to get that sucker on there.
