Recently my motor has developed a constant miss causing it to run on 5 cylinders.. I first suspected it to be ignition related because my ignition harness has always been pretty janky. I pulled the ignition harness, unwrapped it and found nothing.. Power and ground to all my coils, etc.

I realized the motor was never popping or backfiring... If the spark was not provided and fuel was, it would backfire frequently. Am I correct to assume the miss is fuel related?

I then go to my injectors, which I found to have some green battery acid like buildup on #1. I cleaned it off, unplugged and re plugged all the injector plugs. Problem solved, for about a half hour anyway.. Now it seems that when the car is cold, or actually just whenever it wants to, it will run on 6... It seems to sense when I want to haul *** or race, and then cuts fuel purely to spite me..

I pulled all of the spark plugs just now to see if any were dry.. they all look the same to me, pretty dry and white.

Should I keep the assumption that its a bad connection? Does this sound like an injector is failing?

Do SOHC KA injectors work?

Working constantly to make this motor run properly is really beginning to be exhausting.. Thanks in advance for any help..

do you know which cylinder is dead? I'd check the injector plugs and if those are ok it might just be a coil on the way out. They do that sometimes.

I'm not sure what cylinder it is actually.. Its hard to tell when my idle is so poor with the cams, I have to rev the car to keep it alive.. Studders horribly because of the cams already so its hard to notice a difference in exhaust note.

I actually had a coil go bad on me and it caused a series of horrible backfires in boost... Thats why I think this is a fuel related problem.. No sputtering or backfiring, or burning fuel.

Just need to confirm that SOHC injectors are high impedance like the rb20's, then I can replace the injector I suspect to be failing and rule that out. I have a bunch of spare sohc injectors.

Once my roommate gets home I'll have some extra help and we should be able to diagnose the problem faster.

Thanks-Max

It could be a bad ignitor, mine did that for awhile and drove me nuts. Would run fine when it wanted to, then run on 5 cylinders fo a bit, always at the worst times. if you have a spare ignitor Id give it a shot.

I do have a spare ignitor back in oregon.. But I recently moved to phoenix.

Wouldnt lack of spark result in popping or backfiring of some sort?

Great, I'll replace these injectors with some spare ones I have and if that doesnt take care of it I'll hit you up Ope...

In fact, me and a friend just moved here from Oregon, it would be tight to meet some of the AZ 240 crew..

Hit me up sometime

Alright dudes, replaced the injector..

SOHC KA injectors do work!

Car ran smoothly, re timed it... heated up a few miles down the road and the miss is back!

Everyone keeps telling me its a certain component in the ignition system... I dont understand how it could be getting fuel and no spark, but NOT backfire or pop!

Someone shed some light on this for me please, I'm running out of ideas and I'm about to beat my car's as5!
