I'm new here and felt like keeping a log of my journey and hopefully get some useful advice and share my experiences along the way, hope thats okay :P Also, I hope I posted this in the right place too =x

I'm starting with a 1990 model S13. The guy before me tried to swap in a DOHC KA but is apparently a complete moron so I am left to clean up his mess. Gave $400 for the car, (not bad IMO) and I'm going to be rebuilding most of it so I can have that "new car" feel in an old car. It's going to be my daily, so it isn't going to be any sort of a "beast", I'm aiming for reliable yet fun lol. I just have a soft spot for S13s. I used to have one back in high school that I rebuilt but I never got to finish it for lack of funds. Now I make a good living and can afford to do it the right way :P

Here's my to do list:

RB20DET swap
Re-Mapped ECU from Yoshitokio
Digital Climate Control
S13 Silvia front end conversion
New seats
New carpet
Aftermarket steering wheel
New shift knob
New shifter boot
Black interior panels
New windshield
New wiper blades
Smoked tails
New turbo-back exhaust
Z32 Master Cylinder
Z32 brake setup
New Rotors
Brake lines
Brake pads
5-lug conversion (all around new hubs)
New shocks and springs
New bushings (all around)
Strut and sway bars
New wheels and tires
McKinney Mount kit
Q45 MAF
New Radiator
New radiator hoses
Fuel Filter
Fuel pump
New clutch & pressure plate
New gaskets all around for RB20
Aftermarket Intake manifold
Aftermarket Exhaust manifold
Air filter
Spark plugs
Plug wires
Oil pump
Water pump
Timing belt
Adjustable cams
FMIC and Piping
Touch screen radio/cd/dvd player
New speakers all around
Sound deadening mats under carpet/ in doors
I'm just going to sand and prime it for now until I finish the S13 Silvia conversion.

I may have left some things off accidentally. I also left off brand names of parts because I will have to research a bit before I order them, therefore I don't know what brand I'm getting until I order it lol. Just giving the general idea of my build.

My goal is to go ahead and replace most things so that I will know how much mileage is on everything instead of waiting for stuff to break on me. One thing about buying a used vehicle is you never know when stuff was replaced last or how the car was driven, so just playing it safe. Plus I like the feel of everything being new.

Let me know what you think. I'll be posting pics and parts every week, hopefully, of my progress. I work out of town during the week so Saturdays will really be the only time I have to work on my S13.

She needs a LOT of love. Good thing is though, most of the stuff that needs to be replaced, I was going to replace anyway :P I would love to get input from people. I'm open to constructive critisism and debates. :D

Drilled and slotted rotors
Aluminum Z32 calipers front and rear
Agency power SS braided brake lines
Painted Carpet and rear seats O.o
New shocks
TEIN H-Tech springs
KYB dust boots
Installed sound deadener under carpet
Painted interior panels black

Good luck on your build... I also plan to do an RB20 swap in my S13 hatch in the future. Everything you listed sounded good, but i wouldnt do the S14 dash, and center console... i would try to find a good s13 uncracked dash, and swap it out. Personally i think that the S13 dash looks better... plus if this is your daily you will be driving it in the winter... and if you notice on the driver and passenger side air vents on the s14 come out of the door panels. On an S14 the vents lead to the door, HOW would you do that on an S13??? Make sure you make your build very PIC heavy! Lol

Yeah, I've been searching for an S14 dash and center console but no luck. I'll stick with the S13 dash, I suppose. I'm attempting to order parts for next weekend but Paypal is being a prick -_- If I can get it fixed and my parts come in time I will be doing this next weekend.
New shocks
New springs
Z32 Brake Calipers
Steel braided brake lines
New brake pads
New Rotors
Ichiba front and rear hubs.

Just got lucky and found a parts car at a local scrap yard. I'm going to have to go look at it when I get back home Saturday. Hopefully it has a lot of parts I need. If that is the case then I will have no choice but to buy the whole thing lol, it would be cheaper in the long run. I apologize for not being able to work on my car more often but I will have new pictures and updates every weekend, I promise! :D

And the sound deadener insulation that I don't have a pic yet lol.

Say what you will but this stuff is great. For the low low price of $7.99 I refreshed my worn out looking 21 year old interior.

Aw piss. I completely overlooked that part xD damnit damnit damnit! Any ideas where I could get a brand new setup? I'm trying not to use a lot of "used" parts. The only thing I've gotten used so far is the calipers.

Update!

I didn't get to work on the S13 this weekend because I came down with some type of stomache virus. My dad offered to help out and keep me somewhat on schedule by putting on my shocks/springs while I was out of town working this week. That helps out tremendously.

Just got in the calipers I ordered (pictured above).

I'm going to hold off on the rear brakes for about a week or so. I want to get a J30 differential and put it on while I have everything taken apart.

I'm looking at a set of 5zigen FN01R-C wheels in bronze. 17x8 +25 in the front and 17x9 +15 in the rear. Wrapped in Falken Azenis rubber 235/40 in the front and 255/40 in the rear. I'm curious if these will clear the Z32 calipers, any info on that would be much appreciated. It's a pretty good deal on them though, the wheels look pretty clean and the tires are brand new. $975 for the whole set.

So that's basically where I'm at. Waiting on wheels/tires and a J30 differential in the upcoming week or two so I can put my car back on the ground lol.

Unforseen costume party expenses have set me back a week lol. Also my fiance and I went to haunted houses so I didn't get to do as much as I wanted this weekend with the S13. I had fun though so I can't complain :P I'm . waiting until Friday to get some new wheels now and I'm going to hold off on the J30 differential at least until I get the car running. I'm going to start prep work for the RB20 because I want to go ahead and get that out of the way. I will however finish up the Z32 brake swap stuff this weekend for sure. New pics Saturday night!

Finished with the Z32 brake conversion and 5-lug swap! All I have left to do is put on the e-brake cables and the Z32 master cylinder. I will post pics in a few hours when I get back to Tennessee.

The swap wasn't really as bad as I've read it to be. Anyone with the slightest mechanical inclination could do this in a weekend as that is how long this took. All I have left is the master cylinder and the e-brake cables and it's done. If anyone wants to know anything about how to do the swap feel free to ask. I can take pics and guide you through it as much as possible.

Next step is to get some wheels and get my interior shaped up then I'll be ready for my RB >:D

Just got my center vent gauge holder
A Pillar gauge pod
Just bought a set of S13 Silvia headlights with PIAA units and Circuit sports clear covers.

ANNNND I got a brand new set of Work Meister S2Rs in 17x7.5. Guy said he bought them for his car but never installed them. They still have the plastic around the edge. Sex.

Next week I'll have to get some tires for them. This weekend I'm going to wrap up the interior painting and install all the pieces back so I can get a head count on what parts I'm missing haha.
