my RB powered S10 project

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

well as the topic says im powering my 95 S10 with an RB25DET. So far i have the motor mock fitted and am starting to deal with the wiring which is challenging since part of the motor harness was hacked off prior to me getting the motor - but its slowly coming together. anyway here are a few pic - let me now what you guys think

the passenger side mount basically just comes straight off the frame - for now its just clamped to the frame cause i dont have a welder at my apt - the motor is just resting on this mount for now b/c i was focusing on the driver side

the driver side mount - just needs to be trimmed and i need to add a few supports on the back side of it

Very cool swap!

I want a little truck to drive around and haul parts, but want something a little different. Keep us updated on this...definitely looks like fun.

Great idea for a swap man. The S10 is a great platform to work with. Was it a 4 banger or the V6?

I misread the thread title. I though it said 510 not S10

it was the 2.2 - it pissed me off how slow it was so i made a turbo kit for it and it was fun but i decided i wanted to swap something different in it and here i am with an RB in it lol

anyway this is what it looked like last year

nice "electric raspberry" truck. i had a 95 as well pretty much the same colour but it had the 4.3 v6. lots of fun, not bad for running around the farm... well until last January when i hit some black ice on a corner and rolled it.

yeah the color is actually raspberry metallic according to GM haha anyway i couldn't pass of buying it cause it was a 95 and it only had 46K on it - but so far cops have not given me any trouble with it and last year i had it lowered, blacked out windows, no hood, and my intercooler hung down to the ground so maybe its a good color lol

as for videos i wish i had some lol

Now that is a creative, albeit odd, way to mount the turbo. I assume you used the stock cast mani and just rerouted the downpipe to the turbo exhaust housing? I was going to use a similar method to mount a big single on my K5 Blazer. Obviously running a mid pipe between the two mani's and joining them up into a diy collector FTW

i found a manifold for the 2.2 motor but it was designed for a cavalier - the way it was set up there was no clearance for the turbo - since the bracket for the AC compressor was there i mounted the turbo there and then yeah made a pipe to connect the manifold and turbo - not the cleanest job but my first custom kit ...

i got my manifold today! its a pretty tight fit - only have about 1/4" clearance between the manifold and the steering shaft but it fits - the only bad part is i have to have the manifold on the motor before i lower it onto the mounts in order for it to clear the steering shaft

Yep, that's pretty friggin close. When I swapped the HKS manifold onto my Skyline I had to cut part of the motor mount because the T4 compressor was contacting it.

this past week i was on spring break and managed to get alot of work done even though there is not much to show - somehow the custom work always takes 100 times longer then it should lol

i pulled the motor back out and welded the mounts to the frame

it took all day but finally managed to get my radiator mounted - i had to cut out a bunch of the radiator support which i will have to reinforce and also i had to notch out my frame rails - the next pics show this

i originally had my intercooler hanging down below my bumper and when i lowered the truck i wanted it higher - but have since decided having the radiator is more important so i moved the intercooler back low - i will try to get some pics of that but im working on a trailblazer front end conversion and it looks like a mess so i didnt take any pics yet

also i got a Walbro 255L intank pump installed - it was a direct fit which was awesome

here are a few new pictures of the project

got my intercooler piping done

my wiring well on its way but under the dash is a mess because i didnt want to extend the ECU harness so it will be mounted to the left of the steering wheel - i have a jumper harness that will plug the power wires from the RB ECU into the S10 harness - this pic just shows the half of the harness that is spliced to the RB harness - i need to test the S10 harness to make sure what wires i want to splice to

here is the latest progress...

a local driveshaft shop found me a yoke which came in last Friday and it fit! now just have to get some money so i can have them make the shaft for me.

this past 2 weekends i changed the plugs, thermostat, got radiator hoses on, oil feed and return lines done, cooling fans installed, mounted the ECU, got the wiring harness done except for the gauge cluster.

with all that done i was ready to see if it would start and due to my starter being shot it wouldnt but i got a new starter ordered and it should be here friday so hopefully this weekend it will run

yeah i am planning on pulling it to clean the engine bay up and paint it - i had the motor out over spring break so i could weld the motor mounts and was planning on doing the engine bay then but it was too cold to paint and i had lots of other stuff to do - so this way i dont have to worry about scratching anything while i finish fabing everything

Thats awesome man. Great work. Make sure your MAF is spaced far enough away from the turbo inlet. The interference from the turbo blade spinning can cause the car to run pig rich and not idle.

wow i forgot i had this post up - i've been posting on the RB forum - but anyway here is the latest...

i ended up doing all new gaskets from the head gasket up, ARP head studs, new exhaust manifold studs, timing belt, idler and tensioner pulley, nismo fuel pressure reg, and an inline fuel pressure gauge from summit. i finally got it all back together and started driving it about 2-3 weeks ago. currently i am only running 7 psi. i want to get my exhaust done as well as get my gauges working since i only have a coolant temp sensor and boost gauge.

as for the body aspect - its a work in progress which is on hold since i have been focusing on the motor so thats why the front end looks like Frankenstein lol

Looking good man...real good. Is that some kind of Colorado front end you're piecing together?
