Ok guys like the title says my RB25Det is running like crap. I took the whole thing apart for the most part and now it's all back together but still runs like crap!

So I check the timing belt to make sure it's at TDC every thing checked out ok the cam gears are ok and the crank pulley is fine. So I put the timing light to it and the thing won’t turn on so I said this thing must be broken. So I checked it on my brother’s mini copper and it worked just fine. What the hell can be going on?

Thanks Anthony

Ok when I drive the car its not fast at all. For example I was drive at 4k I stepdd on it and nothing the car is slow.

So as of right now I think it can be one of two things the timing or th turbo is blown. But since the timing gun is not working I thought of could be the timing. I Dont have myboost gauge yet so i cant check the boost.

check out this thread.. zerothread?id=177365

It talks about some timing guns not reading properly.. And then reviews the proper way to check timing.

I've got a pretty big turbo on my car and so under ~5-6K it's pretty much N/A and it's still quick enough to get me into trouble.

Post more information up so we can help ya brotha.

Thank you my vert brother!

When I see my work on the car tonight I should have some more details. I'll also try to see if I can borrow a better timing gun them the actron one I have.

For sure I think its timing even NA it feels slow

sounds like a boost leak.

check your timing, get a boost gauge.

sorry mod.

to be helpful

is the gun you have from advanced auto? I kow for a fact that it does not work well with my RB. I bought one for timing my 20 cuz i work there and all, it ran like ****. took the 240 down to school where I used either an OTC or snap-on one and found out the one at AAP was roughly 7 degrees off.

Also, do answer where you hooked the light up, and do a leak test, cuz you will most likely find at least 3 couplers that leak. I know when they leak bad it feels like no boost under WOT, but you can hear the turbo spooling.

all my piping is one peace so i dont reeally think i should have any boost leaks I only have 4 couplers one the I/C piping and 2 on the intake. but you never can be sure so i'm going to buy the leak down tester this weekend.

also i don't think the drive for the CAS is broken because when i change the degrees on it you can see a diffrence in the motor.

and i forgot to mention not really sure if it makes a diffrence. but i'm using the rb25det TPS on my q45 T/B.

tps i dont believe matters, but make sure its not hitting 5 volts before reaching wot. also, check the idle switch.

have you checked fuel pressure? Is it running rich. how bout the range on the CTS. still check those couplers. take off the maf put the tester in its place and hook it up to a compressor with some air in it (just not anything like 60psi). spray down the couplers and places around the manifold for leaks with soap water. watch for bubbles.

do you hear any hissing?

yeah try and get some more info on exactly whats happening. start it up.. listen for any strange noises. check for boost leaks, exhaust leaks maybe? compression loss? firing problems. knocking? anything like that

I'm not sure if you had the same problem that I did. I would stomp the hell out of my RB25 and it wouldn't go anywhere. My problem was a clog in my exhaust... That fixed it mostly, it still ran really rich, so I got it tuned and I haven't had any problems with power since.

Does it sputter? Or is it just a smooth rev, but it just goes slow...If it sputters you may be leaning out. I have a boost gauge if you wanna check your car, while my car is MIA. If you want you could try it out. Just pm me.Do you hear the turbine spooling correctly? Since you're open dp?

Good to hear!

Do me a favor and give us some detail.

What were you doing wrong with previously, and what did you do differently to get the timing correct now.

This info may help others in the future.

Thanks Mad!

well it was all the timming. i had hooked it up to the first cyclinder but that was the wrong place. i connected in front of the ignitor box which was the right place. also i borrowed a friends craftsman timming gun and it worked just fine. i still need to fine tune it and get the fule right and see how the car responds better at 15 or 20 degrees. but all is well and i can now no longer say that my "rb runs like crap".
