Ha everyone.Just raced the hillclimb this weekend and wanted to share my experience with you guys.
First about the mountain. Mt.Ascutney is located in Ascutney Vt.The event is held at the national forest park. It's a paved road(Just enough room for two cars to pass one another)to the top .Elevation change is 1200ft.
The course is 3.8 miles long has 30 turns and with a 19% incline or so.The race is omost ran like a rally event.Timed runs with about 3 people on the mountain at the same time just spread out. There were a few rally people there. Two drivers and all. This is the second year the rally people have raced here, but the mountain has been raced on for years now.I've only raced it twice, but did work(corners and starter) for about 4 events before that.Working the event help allot to get to know how things are ran.
I started friday evening registering and going throw tech. Two issues arose.Cover + terminal on the battery and adjust racing harness.I just bolted in the harness that afternoon and never got around to adjusting them.So easy fixes and i was all set the race the next day.
Saturday morning starts at 7:30 with a drivers meeting. After meeting we have our first fan run.The group are seperated in two groups A and B.B is for double drivers and the wrecker crew.Ya they race two. After fan run it's time to race, but i had my first problem on the fan run.I was leaking oil.Went to my area or pit spot and found that the oil gauge adapter in the block had broke.???Weird but fix bye taking out it out and reinserting my sensor.Fixed.Filled oil and didn't miss my run.I ran on my street tire the first run just to feel it out. They also scream at u when u push them.It was fun but they are street tires.Vary slippery.(they are cheap street tire to boot). My goal for the weekend is to beet 3:20.That is the time they call a break out time.If you beet this time u are required to but in a cage if you want to race again at that mountain. All the hillclimbs have a break out time.I wasn't worried about beeting it because i do now have a cage, but i have not done much to the engine.
Anyway i came down to my pit area and swapped to the hoosiers and i broke a left front lug bolt.Oh dam it.The fix was to run to my house and grap the ones from my other 240 in the shed.I only live 20 minutes away.So i fix the problem.I missed a run and worked throw lunch. We take a 45 minute break for lunch.
Now I'm ready to go.My second run was really fun.Did not push to hard. The third was a little faster.Saturday is really only practice and times do not count toward the over all class finishes.
Sunday.Again drivers meeting and now the times really count. My first run i ran a 3:27.not bad.My second run was a 3:21.Third was a 3:18 :bigthumb: and the final run was a 3:19.
The car handles great with the hoosiers on.A little lose in and out but controllable. The car held up great the rest of the time.I came in 4th in class and 37th overall.Have to check the final results when they post them on there web site.www.hillcimb.org. My time are really fast for what i have. The cars that are in my class are modified as u are aloud to do what ever to the engine and even swap in something else. I had a blast and can't wait for the next one. Here are some pics of some of the cars. There where 54 entries this year.My car will be first.

That sounds incredibly fun. My brother does auto crossing with his s2k. I'm hoping to join him as soon as I do a transmission swap.

Thanks for the replies.Ya that road is a blast.High speed corners with a hole bunch of u shaped turns, and a bridge that takes u for a ride,It's a right 90 degrees turn with a lift.O most catch some air.
The variety of cars is amazing.I did not get to take a picture of the Nissan GTR that ran the hill.Nor the modifys that are there.
I worked at Ascutney resort for about a year down in the kitchen. Many moons ago.We also run Okemo and the funny thing is when i first moved out here from Colorado, again many moons ago,i skied down the same hill i now race up.Didn't even know there was a road there.
Thanks again for the replies.I did get to see some action shots of us racing.www.sccnh.com.Cool stuff.I got to see how my car was reacting to the turns.I might have last years picture of that GTR.I will look. Later
