LMAO! Lino you're crazy.

Yeah your car might be a little mechanically unsound, but DAMN, it looks pretty.

It's like the frigid trophy wife. Might not be the best lay, but she's amazing to behold.

Lino-I'm sorry that active ownership has not been all you dreamed of.since we talked a while back and i know a bit about your situation, I think you are right to cut your losses.

If i hadn't done all the work on restoring silver (over $8000 in parts, and that is with a perfect body and interior [minus clean up labor] at purchase). now, if i had paid shop rates or even $50/hr for the hundreds of hours of work that has gone into the car i'd be in the nuthouse.

actives take a huge commitment. mine still are not perfect, but close.

I think you should 'give' it to Wes. he's wanted an active for a long time and has the energy to make it all it can be.

best of luck

Jay

Boy, you ain't just a woofin'! Body work if far more expensive than replacing mechanical systems. The good thing about mechanical systems is they can be diagnosed and rectified even if it requires replacement of components or even the whole system.

As time moves on, cars become cheaper, simpler, and less of a hassle. Yes, more computers are added, but more computers design cars.

The 2000+ S-class is FAR cheaper to maintain than the W140, but far less satisfying to drive, look at, and be inComputers make it easier to determine how a part is designed, just enough to meet warranty requirements. No more over-engineering to compensate. Costs are reduced so we can have more gadgets on the spec sheet.

My point is this: Newer cars are simpler, more reliable, and less expensive. Its arguable whether they are more or less satisfying.

$400 a month spent on a new M45 will be less of a pain than $400 a month repairing an aging Q. But... an M isn't a Q. Just because something is nice doesn't make it special.

Depending on the insurance rates (which I hear for the Q are quite low, especially in comparison to an M45) you may be saving a bundle and that could offset the maintenance costs for the Q.

I haven't had a chance to drive an M45 yet, but I am looking forward to comparing it to a G50.
