Viton has a lot of good qualities and is compatable in many chemical applications. It's also very expensive compared to the more common buna-n or nitrile. Not too pricey for a small fuel injector o-ring but if they are much larger the cost can easily be in the $100's (chemical pump size) for one o-ring. It can also be a little quirky (i.e. swelling/softening) with just a few chemicals so hopefully it's not in one of the additives we pour into our fuel systems.

It's pretty safe to assume that our G50's are using viton also so I probably won't be spending any time in the o-ring aisle at Home Depot trying to match sizes. OEM wins again.

Goody94,I will be emailing you three pictures that illustrate why/how the lower O-ring of an injector can leak. I took these recently when my #2 injector failed hydrolocking the engine. Can you please post them here? I think they will help other members visualize why this happens...

Glad to help. (You must have known I had the day off.) Here they are.

Fuel Injector with a new lower o-ring

Fuel injector with a used lower o-ring

Comparison of old vs. new.

Great pics. Thanks.

Great pics and thank you for sharing it! Although my injectors were replaced 10k miles ago, these will come handy when it's time again for plenum check.

What do we do when E10 fuel is required, at least in Missouri? Is there an additive I can put in at each fill-up? Thanks!

You've got a 37 1/2% chance (3/8) that one of the injectors that goes bad won't require that the plenum be removed and a 62 1/2% chance that you will have to remove the plenum to install injectors. I think you need to have extra injectors on hand and study up on how to remove the plenum.

Seriously though, here in NorCal, the home of E10 gas and 91 octane, I've got another injector going dead, my fifth I think, and I believe I've got a leaky lower o-ring on one cylinder (the 3rd one). It's missing for the first 30 seconds in the morning and then all's well. I just shipped a fuel rail and 8 injectors to DeatschWerks this morning for their service, with instructions to install the 4 best injectors (3 purple tops) in the middle positions on the rails. They're all ohming in the 10-8-11.3 range and with new o-rings and pintle caps I should be good for a while after their installed.

You need to change battery in or calibrate ohmmeter as they read 12.0 ohms with proper device.

You're right Tech. I meant 11.8-12.3.

My son bought me a nice Sears voltmeter for Christmas, upgrading me from the $15 Radio Shack "fit in your breast pocket" meter. I've taped a 10 ohm (+5%) resistor to the top of the voltmeter display so I can calibrate and check my battery every time I use it. I think you were the one who originally suggested using the resistor. Heck of an idea.

I was having the same problem as 30bino09. At first I thought it was the fuel pump but it hummed when turning the key. So searching the Q forum I found this great thread. I took sdkhalsa advice and pulled the fuel fuse and cranked it a few times. I let it sit for 24 hrs and replaced the fuse and it started right up, however there was lot of white smoke. I drove on the highway to get it burned off. I come to find out that my wife has been giving it gas when starting it, instead of allowing the electronic ignition to do it's thing and start. Would giving it gas while turning over the engine cause it to flood? Or do I need to fear the other diagnoses problems given in this thread? I just want to add that the Q45 Forum is pretty awesome.

Yogi, it would be nice if there were a simple solution to the flooding problem, but I would almost give you written assurance that you have o-ring problems although it is possible that there is a leaky injector. As you mentioned, there is a serious amount of fuel having to be burnt off.

I suggest you do the leak-down test. All you need is a (tire) gauge, a small pvc "T" fitting, a piece of fuel hose and a couple of hose clamps. Here is some additional information: zerothread?id=298955
