Well, today my TCU came in the mail. I installed it without a hitch. Anyone that doesn't have first gear start should get it. It really makes a difference. It scared me at how fast it accelerated. Not for the incontinent I tell you.

Now, the ECU? That's a whole other kettle of fish. And not the fine kind either. After taking apart the glove compartment and taking off the bottom thing where the foot light is (No clue what it's called.) I saw the ECU. It was beautiful. (My stock TCU and ECU looked immaculate. As if there weren't 15 years old. The new TCU and ECU however have quite a "weathered" look. Go figure.) After much huffing and puffing, I was able to get the harness out. I unscrewed the screws that secured the ECU to the side of the footwell. I thought it would be just as easy as removing the TCU. It wasn't. The disappointment I felt when I saw the 4 screws (felt really, I couldn't see them that well.) that secured the ECU to the bracket it's sitting in (Is it really even necessary?) was monumental. I'm sure psychics everywhere killed themselves after reading my thoughts.

So. What do I do now? I managed to get to the ECU and disconnected the harness. (Re-assembly of the glove box went by really quickly. Looks like it's never been touched. I impressed myself, really.) How do I get to the screws to remove the ECU and put my new one in? Is that "bracket" really necessary?

Any friendly advice is totally welcome. Unfriendly advice too.

Oh, any thread jackers in here, it's ok. If you can get a question answered, then more power to you. It's always good to help a fellow Q driver in need.

I pulled into a Wawa parking lot. there were 2 other black G50 Q's. I park next to them. I go in the store, thinking I'm in for some great conversation and networking. The Q's belonged to two totally unrelated people who didn't seem to care/know anything about this awesome vehicle. I died inside a little. Something tells me that they'd give a damn if they were on this board. I'm going to print up business cards with the NICO address and hand them out to Q owner's I meet. Seriously. It's bad out here. No one cares about their Q's.

Remove the bracket with ECU attached from the footwell first (3 screws?), then remove the ECU from the bracket. The harness is not supposed to be unbolted from the ECU until it has been removed from the footwell. I'm suprised you were able to get it out.

Yeah I know what your saying about the dissapointment making conversation with other Q owners. Most of the people I conversate with Qs about are people that come ask me about mine and surprisingly alot are previous Q owners that ALL regret parting with theyre Q.I attempt to bring NICO into conversation with them...Those cards would be great!!!! Maybe WES will pry himself from that, that, that BMW long enough to help you out........

There are 3 screws? I only found two. Damn. I'll give it another go probably Friday. I won't have a free moment to do anything but drive home tomorrow.

I thought that you have to unscrew and disconnect the harness before taking it out of the footwell. That's what I did for the TCU.

I love the TCU. So fast. But it was raining so I couldn't really push it because of the wet ground.

Maybe it's just me being paranoid and a hypochondriac, but after having that exchange on the board about transmission fluid, I swear, I'm noticing some "shift lag". Not really an increase of engine speed, but more of a decrease after the shift and then it picks back up. There's like a slight delay and then I feel it catch. I really hope that my transmission will be ok. I told my Dad and he says he'll take it to the guy who did my injector. He'll drop the pan, clean it, and I think flush it. I've really got to start getting on top of these fluids.

1.) RTFSM

2.) Wait till you get the tar out before stressing your transmission any more.

I'm going to assume that you're trying to look cool by using acronyms. Could that possibly stand for "Read The Factory Service Manual"?

Good job. Only, I can't understand anything in the manual. The lines and diagrams look like M.C. Escher drawings. At least to me.

To address your second statement; that might be the smartest thing I've ever heard you say. I plan on going to the shop this weekend and getting my pan dropped, cleaned, and filter cleaned.
