My Q is running like a heavily pursued Cheetah! Dennis and the T3 crew got her out of the sick bed and back out on the road where we know all Qs dominate. There is no noise at all from under the hood. Not even the ticking lifters I used to complain about (which may have been those cheap autolite plugs). As some of you guys know, my local Snapper lawn mower master tech told me that the engine had innumerable problems ranging from broken timing chain guides to blown head gasket to bent valves. He said it would be cheaper to put in a new engine than for him to use his invaluable deductive skills to pinpoint the problem and fix it. He had it towed to a buddy of his ( partially disassembled, he couldn’t put it back together or knew he would be doing it for free as I refused to pay for his experimental science fair project). This buddy of his happened to be a genius on the old green machines we all rode as kids but knows squat about the Q. The new mechanic (green machine super-tech) was honest enough to tell me that he was afraid to tackle the task (easy decision after he asked to see the engine and I popped the TRUNK to show it to him).

So I tossed her onto an auto transport from U-Haul and pulled her to T3. The trip from Tallahassee to Atlanta is usually about 4 hours but pulling 6200lbs (4100lb car and a 2100lb trailer), driving 55mph and sitting in road construction turned the trip into a 10.5 hour trek.

We arrived and Dennis was there waiting (we were 1-2 hours late due to construction and he stuck it out). I knew she was in good hands when I saw all the other Qs on the lot waiting for healing. My wife thought that was a bad sign and felt uneasy leaving the Q at a 1st gen cemetery but I convinced her that all would be well. Dennis is all that he appears to be on these forums when it comes to know how and willingness to help.

My first few calls from Doug at T3 were bad news. My car had no compression and I might need a new engine. Dennis discovered that the loss of compression was from the cylinders having all the oil washed off the rings.

Long story short, I went from needing a new engine to needing a precat and some new plugs. I got my valve covers sealed, new rack bushings, tension rods, trans mount, trans filter and turned rotors (I’m forgetting something). My car runs and rides better than ever!! Dennis and crew are true professionals and Dennis looks a lot like Mickey from the Rocky movies. I can see him screaming at my Q now…. “Get up you S.O.B cause Dennis loves ya!!!”

Thanks T3 (end info-mercial)

AWESOME write-up!! This is just another example of how awesome T-3 really is. One day, my car will spend a long time there getting fully restored to factory spec. But until that day I'll just have to read this article and daydream.

Thank you and thank you Dennis and T-3

Excellent news!!! I knew your trip to Atlanta would not be a waste. What was the source of the noise, loss of compression, etc?

Heath, the car never duplicated the front engine noise once they got the plugs back in and got her started up. So we don't know for sure what the noise was. Now its hard tell if she is running at all, talk about stealth!

I also got a chance to see Fred's replacement engine. Pretty durn clean!

Good news for sure... Hopefully there won't be any long-term side effects from whatever happened. Hey Fred, what's going on with this replacement engine? I haven't heard about this yet, but I probably missed the thread - way too much time out of town lately.

Great story Chris - I'm so glad you're back in the mix with the ol' gal.

Take her out so she can strut her stuff in downtown Tally!

Chris you forgot about the #7 coil that the plug destroyed....the right bad plugs were so fouled that they melted things. Plus some plenum hoses and a complete cleaning and lots of adjustments.........and some praying.

Members should be aware it is a felony to intentionally remove or tamper with catalytic convertors in anyway.

Each exhaust manifold is $750 and to change both takes 8 hours plus new steel gaskets.

The noise went away with 2 oil changes and some Magic BG products.

Sometimes I wonder how we as a group can ever repay Dennis for all his efforts.

Probably can't be done.

Oh, I think he should get the first US spec GTR from Infiniti. He has done more single handedly to keep vintage J30s and Q45s on the road than Infiniti itself. Perhaps Carlos Ghosn will recognize Dennis's major contribution to Infiniti's slim legacy.

I remember when BMWs were all but unknown and MBs were expensive, underpowered, handcrafted German sedans. All Toyota had was the original Corona, and Honda had yet to introduce it's first Civic, let alone the Accord.

There is no brand image without a brand legacy. For Infiniti, the legacy is the M30, J30 and especially the G50 Q45.
