Some cat gave me the ol smash a window treatment! I dont understand how someone can toss a rock at a Q

Amazing, i live in the hood for 25 years without 1 car break-in, move to the suburbs and go figure:)

Luckily they didnt steal anything. Now that the glass is cleaned up and the car secured, Im calling around for window repair.

Thats where i need help. I know nothing about window replacement. I called a few shops and got quotes for "new" glass installed for $160-$220. The new glass is made by Safetlite, ie not a nissan oe part. I see Joe has the glass for 150-175 as well. - install.

I know oem parts are always recommended. Is this safetlite glass a viable option?

Thanks guys

A lot of the cost is the tedious labor. $160 is, in my opinion, quite good considering how tedious it is to remove the door panel and all the doodads inside.

The cost isnt an issue, I was wondering if the aftermarket glass is a good idea or not.

Damn sorry to hear that... you would think suburban kids would have something better to do like eat shrooms or sniff glue , but they say they commit property damage far more than inner city kids . Depending on how soon you need the glass I would call around to junk yards before I go with some aftermarket glass. Try car-parts.com also

In SC our comprehensive coverage covers glass breakage with a $0 deductible. I guess that's not the case in KS?

In either case, I have never had the "opportunity" to replace a side window on the Q. I would look for a salvage part or OEM replacement if possible...

Looks like the OEM replacement is $216 from Joe... not sure how much for shipping or if the price increase is included.

http://www.car-part.com shows several available in the KC area. One in KC at $50. Remember that the 94+ is a thicker glass than the 90-93 so I'm not sure those would work (sorry wes )

spend the money to have it installed, i did this on a 91 240sx coupe, it is the biggest pain in the *** to replace a window. Id do it again if i had to, or if someone paid me $100/hour to do it.

on the Q its not terribly hard... I did one in about 30 mins, it really helps if you can roll the windows up and down, which i did not have hte luxury of doing.

Sorry to see such senseless vadalism, not that there's sensible vandalism.

Well at least it looks like they didn't damage the body nor trash the interior. Yes, I'm a glass 1/2 full kind of guy.

Safelite will probably word, but tint will be off.

I always go with OEM on windshields as others vary slightly.

We do glass replacement at our shop, the Infinitis I've worked on have not been that difficult ( no Q's, though ). If the used glass looks good, go for it!Tint should be same on Safelite's glass, however, many glass shops can get PPG glass at same price if you can wait a day or two. On windshields, I would much rather have PPG. Check if Safelite is made in Mexico, if it is, DON'T !!!! jim

All I know about is windshields for my Honda, and I'd never go for a cheapie again - obvious optic distortion. An extra $100 is well worth it. And insurance usually covers the cost, minus deductible.

From what I understand, the 94 revamp included thicker glass all the way around to cut down on wind noise. Amazing how many small things changed in 94... a 93 and 94 look pretty similar - but sooooo many parts are not directly interchangable.

Long looking but I found a stock window in very nice shape( my glass is incredibly scratch free after all these years).

Thanks for the advice. Q purred when she felt new glass

Five yrs ago I came out of a movie at night and found the driver window broken. All my stuff was still in the car. Since the car was only a month old I had parked out aways and figured some punk wanted to teach me to park closer and just get door dings!!!!about two days later (can;t remember) the brakes started to lock up and then......right on the freeway....as I pulled over....complete lock up!!!!

SOme one had put oil in the brake fliud. contaminating it. NEVER put anything in brake fluid. It caused the fluid to expand as it got hot, thus locking up the brakes. The dealer covered it all under warrenty. Had to replace everything.

very scary.
