Last night as my wife pulls away to go to work I notice some kind of oil drops. It was clearish black and thick not like motor oil but I could be wrong. This morning I check my oil and its a nice and yellow.I notice it doesnt drip alot.I think it only drips after a ride and stops soon after, since I only have like 3 spots.Plz someone help me out if you can ID the problem.THX a bunch It seems to be coming from the front drivers sideI have a bad pic of the comparison of the two fluids.the lighter fluid is my motor oil.I have more pics of underneath the car but since I'm new I dont know how to post more pics.BTW its a 98 Q with 90k

Looks like you need a new tension rod bushing. It's that bushing at the end of the rod, where the bolt is going through, just above the forming drip. Call up one of our sponsors. Everythinginfiniti has them for around $20 I think, and you need to press out the old one and press in the new one. Replace both sides at the same time.

Wow thx for getting back to me so quick,hmm.....sounds like a job that I prolly cant do on my own.Ok,so is that some kinda lube grease thats dripping? Also I just notice a noise in the steering,I only hear it while I'm parked and turn the wheels is that related?I hope its is.Do you think I can afford to drive it for a week until its fixed or should I just wait till is better?DAEDALUS thx a bunch,my stress level has gone down

It's not a lube. It's silicone that's inside the bushing to cushion the ride. The bushing is like a jelly donut, and all the jelly is leaking out. The noise...not sure about that. Maybe things are grinding in the bushing without the silicone? You could probably drive it for a week, but go ahead and order the parts today and get a shop lined up to do the work. The rest of the front suspension system is taking the shocks the bushing should be absorbing, so the sooner you get it fixed the better.

For spill free oil filter replacement! There is a funnel right under the oil filter, so when you undo the oil filter oil doesn't drip on the side of the engine!Cheers!

How do you get at the filter with the funnel there?

The funnel actually isn't in the way

It's more like a pretty small ledge.

But either way, oil filter is a PITA to get out on VH41!
