I just did a clutch job on my 240 a couple weeks ago, and all you have to do is tilt the motor back. I put a piece of wood on my jack and pushed up on the harmonic balancer. Not that hard, just enough to tilt the motor. Although I didn't need to do that to get the transmission out, only when I put it in.
But trust me, if you have an engine hoist, PULL THE MOTOR. Its not that much more work at all, and I spent 5hrs putting the transmission back in. That was just going from new clutch was just installed and transmission laying out of the car, to one/two bolts holding it in. Its a GIANT PITA. And Ive done it a few times.
I did it the same way your doing it now, on jack stands in my grandpas garage. If I had known my neighbor had a engine hoist i would have used it.
You did take the shifter out too right? If you didn't take off all the boots and then take the snap ring that holds the shifter in and your set.
If you take the motor out, take the ps pump off the engine and tie it to the car, and same with the AC if you have it. Other then that its really easy.
