Honestly, I'm okay with Skate 3 doing exactly what it did. I'm also a pretty well-known and vocal critic of the whole "sequels have to be completely different" attitude.
Basically, my view on the matter is: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Skate 2 is basically the only game in my Xbox 360 library I play anymore. I love that game. I don't even skateboard in real life, but I enjoy the game. But I've always had a few complaints with it. The new, more robust multiplayer features fix many of them. And the new Hardcore mode fix most of the rest.
I want more control, and I want to spend less time off my board. Skate, for me, is a "screw around" game. I basically ignore the career mode and just go skate. I also play it online with friends, but Skate 2's restrictive locations in online mode put a serious damper on that fun.
I don't want more nitpicky crap. I don't want to swap out parts, etc. I just want to jump on my board and go. And I want to do it with as effective a control scheme as possible. And that's what Skate 3 delivers.
So I don't see it as a money-grab sequel. There might not be a lot of new shiny stuff, but there's DEFINITELY a hell of a lot of behind-the-scenes improvements in nearly all the areas I was hoping for. All of it adds up to a superior game experience.
Also, moved to the Gaming Forum (it exists, you know).
