ok so i had the infamous HUD capacitor problem, so i soldered a new one on and everything worked fine for a month or so. for the last month ive noticed that sorta hard bump caused the HUD to reset (lights go out for a sec and speedo goes to 0), and it has been taking less of a bump to cause the HUD to reset. then the time the lights would be out longer after i hit a bump, and i'd have to smack my dash a couple times to wake it up again. but now is my real problem.. when i turn my parking or headlights on, the dash lights will be like 50% dimmer. what the hell is up with that?

i guess im going to have to pull out the cluster again and re-solder the capacitor on. but any ideas on why it is dimmer with the lights on? without the lights the speedo is at it's full brightness.

I am not sure this is the case, but on many cars I have seen that have lit things that are always on, they have a special dimmer setting for when the head/parking lights are on. I guess it is assumed that when you have the lights on you don't need the full brightness because it is darker outside, or maybe that if the lights were too bright they could distract the driver at night. Whatever, I always thought it was dumb, I can control my own lights.

^^ I agree with him. I would expect the instrument guages to dim when you turn exterior lights on. Are you saying that it never did this before? Does your dimmer switch still respond w/wout your headlights on?
