Hey just wanted to share what I learned on my oil pump install. First bought new pump and found it didn't come with a gasket. After searching around decided to make one. I know its not much, but if you get the thinnest material they sell you can get a little more crank to pump engagement. [IMG] My old compressed gasket measured .022 where the new gasket measured .012 uncompressed. Just take some plain paper, position on pump and rub the back with dirty finger or chalk, careful not to let it move around,. [URL=http://imageshack.us] Then lay paper over gasket material and with moderate pressure trace outline. Then take some assorted punches and over a piece of hard wood punch mounting holes. Then cut out your gasket. Then I coated both sides of gasket with permatex gasket sealant and let dry. Lightly spray mounting surface of pump and position gasket. After it tacks up you can finish trim any irregular spots with razor-knife. Then spray light coat on block mating surface. Then I added about a 3/4 oil cap of oil to pump, to much and it will be running out on install. On pump installation I noticed that the crank seal can be a real pain to get over crank without knocking spring for seal loose or bulging seal out. What ever you do, don't let pump touch the block till you know it's on right. Normally I would just hand tighten some thing like this but this time I decided to torque to FSM specs. You here that alot on here, FSM FSM FSM.Well in the one I have it says 9.8-11.8N-m which converts to 29 to 32Ftlb's. Seemed a little high to me for a 6mm bolt but broke out the torque wrench and guess what happened next? After pulling pump and broken bolt, remaking another gasket, I compared the remaining bolts thread to thread and realized the others had stretched. Went to the local Ace hardware and bought all new hardened 10.8 bolts ($5 and change). Finally reinstalled and tightened to what they probably should be 8Ftlb.

I don't know where you got your conversion information but 9.8-11.8 Nm converts to about 7-9 Lbft. You should have gone with your gut feeling and rechecked the conversion or buy a torque wrench with both units of measurement. Also you can just use silicone to seal the pump. Just spread it on nice and thin and your good to go...

your tq conversion was wrong... you can also use rtv instead of that construction paper + gasket spray

You know after looking at the chart again I was wrong. In a hurry and the thing is layed out kinda screwy. And yes I guess I could have just gooped it up, haven't had good luck with RTV and I don't want to do it again. Just scares me to have RTV to seal pump when it was pushing 100psi before at cold idle. And that is Fel-pro gasket material not just a sheet of construction paper,
