Well yesterday we got absolutely slammed with rain..... At least an inch a just a few hours...

I go out to the Q and pull it into the garage (still hooking up my sub), and the headliner around the rear of the sunroof is soaked!!!!! DIdnt make drip anywhere but leaked enough that this happened..

On occasion this has happened before, sometimes its when I dont close the sunroof good enough...

The front drains are good, i poured water in them and it comes gushing out under the car, the drivers side works better than the passenger... I dont think i can get to the rear ones... It looks like it sags a litlte in the rear, and Heath mentioned that I can adjust the clutch upward... This is OK but when I put the sunroof back down it just goes back to where it was (sagging)...

Im sorta thinking i might need a new sunroof gasket.....

Drip rail sticking not coming all the way forward, when roof closed. If the roof seal has a rearward crack in rubber, the seal must be replaced...............or at least a tiny amount of black rtv used to try to fill the seal joint..........let dry 24 hours........no sticking allowed.

It seems like the headliner is right above the back edge of the seal.....

So it could leak rihgt on to the headliner, if the drip rail is sticking how do I fix it?

I have a *slight* little cut on the drivers side of the gasket, in hte middle but closer to the rear if anything......

The drip rail slides forward to locate exact under the seal at rear.Take sunroof out and repair or replace.Use a coat hanger to pull the rail forward after each open and close or don't ever open again.

If its sticking, would it be possible I could spray some WD40 in there or something like that and fix it that way..? I guess I could take off the headliner and see what I could do..

Saturday+no work= Free day on the Q! :)

Good luck, Wes! I see another great article for NICO.

I noticed the other day that the driver's side front corner on my Austin Q45 is slightly raised from being flush with the roof panel. I have avoided researching the adjustment as I don't have time when I am in town, but I know the gasket will deterioate and I will have to address it before that occurs.

Also I have a rattle just to the right of the instrument cluster under the dash. Another weekend project I have postponed as it is not always audible. But I can generate it at will by thumping with my fist, so I know it's waiting for me.

Brian, i have the same rattle in my Q... However with my "distorted bass notes" I dont generally hear it!! :D It seems as if its almost right behind the clock, but deep within the dash..... I also have to tighten up some other things as I ahve some other rattling.....

Thats the way mine is as well, its raised in the front and sags in the rear... Ill probably have to devise a method for clearing the rear drains.....

I just went out and played with it, and I couldnt get the drip rail to come foreward, im gonna have to study the FSM for the location of everything..... A sunroof gasket cant be too hard to replace or expensive from Joe...

Oh good, I'll wait for the write up. Sounds like loose screws in a cage when I thump it.

Hearing damage from overboosted distorted bass can hide a lot of minor auditory annoyances.

Huh?

I SAID, HEARING DAMAGE FROM....

"A sunroof gasket cant be too hard to replace or expensive from Joe..."...................have a drink before you ask the price...........why I offered the suggestion of repairing what you have.......I replaced mine twice and the last time it cracked within a year.....then the new one cracked......the rubber is old even sealed new in the packages.

Ok. I will eventually try and take apart the sunroof...

I dont know if I made this clear, but it only happens under TERRENTIAL downpours, but ill try the RTV on the gasket, cant hurt...

Ill try the thing with the drain rail too, but I couldnt get it to come up any farther. I opened the suroof so it pops up and stuck my hand back there, and couldnt get it to move foreward..... I assume its supposed to cover the area where the headliner attaches over....

Enjoy the work there Wes.

The rain has come here the past few days. We didn't have any for about a week, but the past week, we've had about 5 inches. Forecast calls for rain everyday for the next week as well. You better keep that Q dry.

To bring back a thread......

I did this about 3 months

Before you start flaming, say I jerry rig things ( ;) ), and other things like that, let me say we have been DUMPED on at least 5 times (steady overnight rain) since Ive done this and have been dry as a bone..

I took some electrical tape around the back edge of the gasket. Popped it up, and then applied it to the areas, so the edge doesnt touch the paint.. Then kinda scruntch it up underneath, but it still has flat edges....

You HONESTLY cant tell where it is unless your looking for it... It doesnt look as ghetto as you think it might (if it did i wouldnt ahve done it)..... Ive been high and dry for weeks, and it was free..

It certainly (IMHO) looks better than the mess that is potential with using RTV.....

Sounds like a viable alternative to a very expensive and difficult repair. More reason to religiously use a car cover from April-October!

You might put the electrical tape on top of silicone - to sort of use it as a form? I used silicone to fix a similar problem on my Mercury Cougar, and it worked pretty well.
