Well, I just bought a somewhat modified s14. Invader body kit, 18 inchwheels, suspension mods, an overall nice looking car. So here I was feeling pretty good about my purchase. My brother wanted to see the car, so off we go 'round the block. Racked up the RPM's a couple of times. Let her loose a bit. Nothing too extreme.

And then the dung hit the fan... Took a 90 degree turn at abouts 40mph. Not sure whether to blame the cheap tire's lack of grip; the pothole in the middle of the turn; the loose gravel mid turn; or just poor judgement mixed with driver error. I'm going with the latter. Well the combination of the afformentioned ingredients put my car into what we'll call 'a severe, gravel induced understeer' state. After a short trip over the small embankment, I found myself in an open field making like a John Deere. I luckily was able to back my car out of the field and limp home very dejected. Only damage was to the front fascia, which had yet to be painted; and oh yah, that little thing called 'pride'. Pics ->

So basically, I'd like to know where you all would recommend getting a new body kit front bumper only, where I won't get horribly shafted on price or shipping. I live in Michigan, so if there are any shops within a couple of states, I could go that route. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thinking of a drift, invader, or something of the sort. This may have been covered already, but I didn't find anything thru the search. Commence with bashing... First post... I'm sooo ashamed...

really feeling the love... maybe i dig the whale mouth look. actually it came on the car. previous owner's choice. anyway, i like some of the extreme dimensions kits (sponsor), but they are clocking in at over 400 dollars for bumper only plus shipping. really don't want to spend quite that. too bad everythings in socal or i'd drive and pick one up. which sponsors might you recommend? thx for any help.

what ive found on body kits, 400 bucks for a front bumper is the norm.... not many ppl will sell something decent for less.... if you want cheap... you can always go ebay

and shame on you to crash such a nice car in your first trip... funny story- the second week of owning my car i was showing off to a friend by taking a highway offramp really fast.... long story short, over steer, spun into bushes, thankfully no damage

don't sweat it bro, curbs happen. You outta see my front bumper on my truck. I haven't broken it but it has scratches on it from curbs to oppossums to autoX cones. Get a new bumper and get the one you want. its your car, get what makes you happy. Everyone is going to have something to say about it anyway.

my opinion, get a stock bumper from a junk yard while you decide/save. don't put a new aftermarket bumper on until you have the money to get it painted.

what does the rest of hte car look like?

welcome aboard and sorry about the car.

if I had broken my bumper like you did then most likely I would go back to stock front bumper with SE lip or greddy lip. Or a Nismo bumper..

sometimes this bumper is a bit too much but you do get used to it tho. Im just waiting for money or an excuse to change back to stock front or nismo bumper but before that my eyes are set on KA-T

Thanks for the advice guys. As for the rest of the car, I'll post pics as soon as it's all there. My brother (2_slo on this forum) hijacked my wheels for his ride till I get mine fixed and on the road. Also looking to do the manual swap shortly, just need a new driveshaft; might as well do that while it wait...

i agree with whoever said it. i think get a bumper from a junk yard till you decide what you want and can afford to get it painted WHEN U PUT IT ON. also if you get a junk yard bumper you can learn how to drive that car and not worry about messing up a 400 dollar bumper. =) just me tho

What he meant to say was welcome to NICO. You will find that we all speak our minds very clearly here.

But get a better quality kit while you are at it. Also, post up more pics of the car. Engine hsots, interior, other body shots etc.

Welcome fellow Niconaut, your life will never be the same.

I'm just North of Lansing. Probably not too many people from MI due to our poor climate. All the potential Niconauts probably have rusted out beater 240's. I hate salt, it should be outlawed. I call for a prohibition on salt; who's with me? Rust's my cars and gives me high blood pressure. I notice a general lack of fine automobiles here. I always see more when I travel out of state. For a state with such a rich auto heritage, I'm not impressed. Someday I will take my cars and move to a warm, salt-less climate. Leave this state to the liberal democrats. Boo. No offense to the tree hugging hippies on this forum. Someday, the "Big One" will suck Cali into the Pacific and global warming will rise the Great Lakes until they swallow this glove shaped monstrousity. Only then will the universe be 'right' again. I digress. I have actually seen a few S13's around here lately. I'm one of the few, the proud- S14 owners in the area. Like you said. Great to see another Michigander with some sense... and I don't actually hate this state as much as I let on. ---Disclaimer---The views expressed in this paid commercial advertisement may not reflect those of the staff and management on this forum... but they're still right.

FF 'drifting'.

*rolls eyes*

Ground dynamics sells quite a few front bumpers for about $300.

Method, Great advice on the bumpers. Unfortunately, it comes late. This thread is very old. Several months anyhow. It was my very first post. But since it has risen from the ashes I'll give a little update:

I've since ditched the thrashed Invader front (I actually massacred it with a hacksaw, painted it, and drove it for a little while). I acquired a Veilside front from r1jlewis (the s15 bezel guy) and painted it and hung it. Just finished rough fitting the headlights today, so everthing is all in place. I've now got the Veilside and some aftermarket SLR fenders. Both painted with Matrix BC/CC. A 'decent' color match. It's the Emerald Blue color. That's the color that switches with the light between a green, blue, purple color. The greenish looking part in the direct light is spot on, but the part in the shadows is a little bluer than the OEM paint. I'm pretty pleased for a daily driver and my first real auto paint job. I actually like the slightly bluer hue better, so I might opt to repaint the rest of the car too. I'm now looking for a good set of sideskirts to compliment the front. That and a new set of headlights, as my brackets are broken. Right now I'm stuck in a tough spot cause my bro stole my wheels for his s13 and managed to shear the special tool off in one of the lugnuts. He took one to the tire factory to see if they had one and they said they have never seen one like it. Can't drive on his stock steels either cause the ride height is too low and she drags her belly on even minor bumps. Plus it looks hideous. So now he's drivin' around in his car, which I bought, with my 18's, with sunset orange paint which I bought for my other ride. Brothers, what good are they??

2fizzle, how's the drift scene in Niles, LOL????? I actually work at a box plant (G-P) which makes alot of boxes for Niles, which I believe is located in Niles. They are one of our heavier workloads. Guess they sell lots of veggies? The weather and the roads suck here for cars, but I thank God everyday that I don't live in Cali... the world would be a better place without smog referees and the CHP. They may be the epicenter of the tuner auto scene, but they are far from free. Like a seperate socialist/facist country.

Yah, I'll drop some pics on the morrow, it's dark here now and was when I was finishing up. Of course you know that, being a Michigan Wolver-weeny. j/k Can't compliment your choice of schools, but like you said, to each his own.

MSU will Pwn you!!!
