I recently had a problem with my battery draining. I narrowed the problem down in a couple days and found out that it was my o2 sensor.

I decided to cut the wires to the o2 sensor and take it out of the exhaust pipe. Once the wires were cut the battery did not get drained. But if i connect the wires it will drain ( while the o2 was connected or not to the exhuast)

Im not sure if i need to buy a new o2 sensor or whats the problem.

Thanks

check the harness for shortssorry to tell you, but unless its a obd2 car, there is no possible way that an o2 sensor can drain a battery. the o2 sensor IS a battery. only way obd2 can is a freak inccedent making the heater circuit stay on

hey sorry but whats a obd2 car? i tried searching that on google but couldnt find anything. I try again tmrw on my day off to see if i can find any shorts.

Thanks

Edit:

O ya, when its plugged in, the o2 sensor gets hot even when the car is off, well not hot but warm i can feel heat, im 100% that its the thing thats draining. So do you know what i should do at this point, i know i can drive without it but id rather produce less emissions

your car is obd1 if its older than 96/ obd2 is 96 and newer. only way it would be doin this is if the harness was shorted/something wired into the o2 sensor. the o2 sensor, during normal operation, creates voltage, it does not use it. so the only thing i can think of(if your posotive that component is cousing your problems) is a hot wire(always supplied voltage) has shorted to the o2 sesor wire and is grounding itself through the sensor

and just so you know OBD stands for on board diagnostics, Theres a plug on the driver side under the steering column that you can plug scan tools into.OBD1 is pre 96 and is non standardized between manufacturers. OBDII is post 96 and is standardized between manufactures so any obd2 scan tool will work on any obd2 car.
