Well Guys,My car got broken into on New Year's Eve. They stole my Burtman Industries Red Burlwood console. They also screwed up the the shifter to where it doesn't shift into Park, and they messed with my ignition to where my key is stuck. So here is what is broken:1. Passenger's Front window2. Shifter (doesn't go into park and only cranks in neutral)3. Ignition4. Radio/CD (broke it while prying away the console)5. Console completely stolen and they broke the brackets too(http://www.burtmanindustries.com/zoompr ... Nationwide Insurance took 3 days to get me a rental car, and that pretty much ruined my winter vacation because I had to drive around in 14 degree weather with a car with no passenger's window and the key stuck in ignition. It's all good though because I have comprehensive on that car, so no worries. I am just worried that they will total it out since it has 267k miles?Let me read the sticky on how to post pics.

My regrets.....Sorry to hear that someone ruined your vacation and vandalized your baby. I hope you get it taken care of and they do not total it. A broken window in cold weather is a bear.

Thanks Fellas for your support. It was a hard break, but things like this happen to everyone I guess. I will try to take more pics; however I left the car at the body shop. I am awaiting to hear what he has to say. I miss my baby already!

Sorry yo hear that. Nice way to bring in the new year huh? You kinda wish you could be walking up to the car, as they were there doing it.

I hope your insurance takes care of you.

BAD NEWS:Insurance company just called and they want to total the car because of the "extensive damage". Look like my love affair witht he G50 is coming to a sad conclusion. I really can't believe this. I told them that I might be interested in buying the car back and parting some of it out, or just selling it to my friend where he can fix it. I am definitely selling my wheels (2003 Maxima wheels) if anyone is interested.I am still in a state of complete shock....

Sorry to hear that. There are some things that you can do to "fight back".

I seem to recall a while back.... mid 06, there was a thread that talked about how to (or at least how he did it) negotiate with insurance companies. Read this one:zerothread?id=153122

Also this one:zerothread?id=172794

Now I remember. It was "Q451990" Heath. Read up and you might get some good ideas. I know I did. I love to negotiate.

Thanks Dimitri! I read the thread and now I know what to expect. I am not going to take their first offer. My main motive of negotiation is that I need enough money to guarantee that I can buy a comparable car for that amount. G50's are going for 5k+ around here, and I expect to get 4500+ from my car with skillful negotiations. Thanks again for your support and advice.

Glad you enjoyed my thread - but sorry to hear about your car.

I would absolutely try to keep it if the damage is repairable. I personally try to get wrecked cars totaled out if they're borderline, but with what is essentially bolt-on interior parts, I think if the car is in otherwise good condition, it's worth saving. Some pics. would really help us.

The new cost of those parts are very expensive, but I doubt that you'd be out that much if you decided to replace the parts yourself with the help members here parting out cars, eBay, http://www.car-part.com, etc.

Sounds like you need shift linkage, a window, and miscelaneous trim parts and peices.

How far off is the insurance company's first offer from the "total it" threshold?

You probably want to figure out how much you would get totaling less the buyback cost vs. that threshold. Since you had comprehensive coverage on the car, I assume you want to continue full coverage - which would be impossible with a salvage title, at least in most states. If you don't care about continuing full insurance coverage, or resale, then you might as well go for the best deal possible... negotiating the heck out of it upward and then buying it back.

Again, post some pics or even email them to me and I'll put them up for you. My email address is in my profile.

Keep us posted!

Heath

I know how it feel. Here's my story. Just a week before Christmas, it was raining and dark, my wife's 03Q45 backed up into my daughter's 04G35 - both bumpers crumpled, Q's LH tail light busted and G's RH quarter panel slightly dented. Both of them are now awaiting repair at the body shop. Just a day after the incident, I sprained my leg and was wearing metal brace for about a week. To get away from the NorCal 'weather,' we went to Palm Springs, got to swim on an outdoor pool and then spent Christmas day at Disneyland. Kids and grandkids were happy - a good break, and returned to NorCal a day after Christmas. Next, my son drove our van to LA with some friends and on the way back, New Year's day, the CEL came on. He got home safe and sound but then told me that his 99I30 has a CEL on too (didn't tell me before he left for LA, info on this issue posted in the I30/Maxima forum). So here I am, New Year's day, 4 out of 6 cars grounded. Crying time? But it could have been worse:- due to kids' school break, there is no urgent need for the 3 cars- better to bump a car than another person- my son could have been stranded in the middle of nowhere at I-5So as not to ruin my New Year's day, I didn't touch the defective cars and just watched TV the rest of ther day. Next day, after work... yes, holiday is over - took the issues head on and got both the van and I30 working the following day (no more CEL). The repair cost for both the Q and G is about $2800. Not that bad, and the cars will be ready in a few days. So things are getting better. And who knows, maybe I'll win the jackpot in the CA lottery. He-he-he.

In your case, you have comprehensive insurance. So unless you insurance company 'totaled' the car, it should be Ok.

The Q is a great car and NICO members really rock. You will always get support from these people. This is the best car club in the universe.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!Rod
